Here's an analysis of Miracle Mud that was done some time ago. You'll notice there's a lot of Calcium, Iron, and Iodine.

The excessive iron and silicate could very well explain why with good water params I am still having nussiance Algae issues.

Silicon, when in the form of SiO2 (Silicon dioxide or quartz sand), is inert and is not bio-available to be dissolved into the water. However, the Iron and Iodine benefit not only the macroalgae in the refugium, it benefits any algae connected to the system.
