for everyone running their tanks during unordinary hours (late night), how do you get new additions to the tank to adjust smoothly?

i run my lights from 8PM through about 4AM to save on electricity, but every time i get a new fish they take a long time to adjust. they are used to coming out during normal hours (daytime) and thus come out at this time.........when the lights arent on. meaning that they might miss meals and whatnot

just any tips or advice to help the fish get used to this opposite daytime schedule?

I run my tank from 4 pm to 12 AM. When I get new additions I just cut the lights out for a few hours.
