how do you get your substrate looking so clean

brand new tank..just added the subtrate...the guy that gave us the rock said take the coral ...if it dies it dies but said it should make it through the cycle? heck with it

I'd post it in the anemone section, its definately an anemone, and possibly in a bit of bad shape? Its not a BTA due to the spots on the column. I'm not entirely sure but looking at the column/foot of the anemone, it reminds me of an LTA. I'd ask the folks in the Anemone section for their opinion however.

I agree with Joe. Over the years I have learned to really leave things in and give them a chance. It is amazing how some things come back. It reminds me of the anemones I would see when I went out on night dives in the Caribbean. People would walk over these anemones all day long. They also sat where the temperature and salinity fluctuates fairly rapidly on a daily basis. I've give it a chance, but read up on it and try to find out exactly what it is in case it has picky feeding, lighting, or flow requirements.

maybe i could pull it from his tank...put it in mine til his tank is ready??....heres an even better question...is it posible to cut some of it up and put it in my tank...or cant u frag thigns like this? (srry if thats a really stupid ?)

No such thing as a stupid question, what might be stupid is doing something with out asking the question. What ever it is it is stressed and you aren't sure for 100% what it is. I wouldn't cut things up when they are stressed. Some corals/anemones will force themselves to split when they are stressed, but "fragging" them yourself will just add additional stress and probably kill it.

I wouldn't force it to split.

You could put it in your tank, but you would want to carefully acclimate it and something like this I would quarantine, but then again I quarantine everything and most people don't. Just my two gilders.

Edit(forgot I was back in the states): “Just my two cents.”

No. Don't try to frag it. You could put it in your tank for now, or bring it to mine. heehe. I don't know if it will make it through the cycle, but definately don't cut it.

Don't pull it out of your tank, with anemones, they are not dead until they start literally "Melting away." So never count the anemone out I've seen some come back from a worse state.

I agree with the folks who suggested Rock Anenome, and I don't see any reason to putt it out based on the picture posted.

yea it definately is a rock anemone ...it looks just like that last one in the pic but not as healthy looking...once we get the new lights and everything i think it will pull through..wish it luck
