I need some advice for a 300 gallon mixed reef that my wife and I are planning. The tank will be a Lee Mar custom glass tank 24" tall X 96" long X 30" deep or wide.

My questions are reguarding lighting and flow

1) will 2 250w + 1 400w pendant be enough for sps most everywere and lps most everywere with sofies in the shadows or is the 400w too much for softies I've recently burnt some xenia ,colt and kenya with too much light.
I could doo 4 250w insteade or 3 250w advise me please.

2) I want lots of flow but not so much that i can't find a spot for corals like torches, frogspawn and hammers. I'm planning a closed loop I would like suggestings for hole size number and placement

3)I also would like suggestions for return pumps I think i would like to go with about 1200 GPH

Pointers, suggestions and comments are welcome thank you Jonah

I'm setting up 3x250MH 10K plus 4x160VHO actinic over the same footprint for a mixed reef. I have 2 closed loops with Dart pumps and OM4ways, each dumping through 8 loc-lines, so flow will be directable. I'm also using a Dart return...more than most recommend for sump return, but I'll have 3 interchangeable pumps.

I'm setting one up that size also.

I'm running a dart for the return. The return is plumbed in to 6 lock lines that will be hidden on the bottom of the tank behind some rocks. 4 x 13" overflows handle the water back to the sump. 8 modified hydor koralia #4 powerheads provide closed circulation.

3- 250w 10k halides with luminarc reflectors. Will add a 4th in a few months. 4-55W Blue Plus T5s and 2-160W Actinic VHOs.

Wow, the dart is rated for 3600gph. mflamb correct me if I'm wrong but you are running three dart pumps, 2 for closed loop and 1 for return? Is this amount of flow neccesary?

Necessary would not be the word that I'm looking for. Maybe...desireable...Lots of gallons of SPS to care for.

Glad to see your going big!
It's going to take awhile, I've got a remodel to finish before I can set it up. Did you happen to see me carrying that crusty G4X away from the last frag meeting? That's the only thing I have for this system so far :) Good start, huh!

Well, I'm trying not to tearup the LPS also, are there spots in your tank tyhat only have "mild flow" ?

The 3 Darts are plumbed through 16 different 3/4" loc-line returns, so flow will be "directable". I'm confident that I will have enough flow control for LPS. My wife is a Bubble Coral fan.
