I just need to asked the H&S skimmer users
all of the H&S skimmer only fill half the skimmers reaction chamber with bubbles ?
I saw one running but only utilize half of the skimmer yes you don't get any bubbles in your tank from the skimmer but that just waste half of the skimmer.
I really like H&S and Deltec , and was looking to get a European made skimmer but i'm still searching ;)

I am not sure where you are getting that info. My H&S fills the whole skimmer body with lots and lots of micro bubbles.

mine doesn't - the bubbles thin out around the main pump intake area... - wonder if mine has a problem - don't know cause its new - could i see a pic of your

never the less - the H&S's rock so who cares and I am sure there is a reason(i do if mine is not adjusted or running like everyone elses)

My euro reef - just retired is the same -

Zoom,
On most of the External models, the skimmer fills to approx the top of the bottom band. That varys on the input flow into the skimmer. You can get the skimmer to fill the whole chamber by feeding the skimmer by a stronger than recommened pump, but that decreases the contact time. The two most common sizes for this is the A150 and the A200-1260. That design does elimante the microbubbles and also keeps the pump to where it does not pull just air from the skimmer. If the bubble level comes down further on the chamber, then it would be recirc the air and the needlewheel and pump will not work correctly. The way H&S has them designed it to their max performance, I know it is a little different than you typically see, but the performance speaks for itself.

Thanks .

If you fill the entire body with bubbles, you don't have much water in their to interact with the bubbles! When both my Eheims (soon to be all three Eheims, thanks finsreef) are on, the bubbles to just below the top of the bottom band.

It could be that the one you saw had a pump that was pinching off some air. I do that frequently to control the type of skimmate I want to produce.

Either way, these thing rock. Absolutely the best skimmers I have seen, or used.

If you look you can see in this picture what i'm talking about the picture is from a fellow reefer from RC i just barrow the photo thank you AJtheReefer
so you can see the water is right on the top ring of the skimmer that is almost half the skimmer with out bubbles .
i saw the same thing at a European forum with the same exactly water level i was just wondering why half of the skimmer was so clear .
It is no brainer that the European skimmers rock on efficiency and low power consumption, look what i'm running on my skimmer now
:D

If you look close to the top of the airline you'll see a little grey dial, it's an airline pincher. He probably has the air pinched off. I know AJ's progress and he is in the process of optimizing his skimmer. It's definitely not a "waste" of half a skimmer - the more water the better. The bottom line is these Eheims are the best pumps availabe - probably second only to Red Dragon (Bubble King skimmers).

They are amazing skimmers, H&S and Deltec. I loved my Aerofoamer - I had the smaller model - but it's truly night and day. Good luck on your decision!

Thanks Fliger now i see if you look closer you can see the hose is pinched to much .
I like the H&S A-200-2x1260 Protein Skimmer but i have to save a little more $$$$.

That's the exact skimmer I have running. It is unbelievable. You have a 200G, you could probably get a way with just a 1x1260. I'm actually buying a A300-3x1260 which is ridiculous overkill, but I'd like the insurance. Plus if I ever upgrade tanks I won't need a new skimmer.

Talk with Brian at Finsreef. He knows a ton about these skimmers (I think he's the distributor). I bought my 2x1260 thru him and am buying my 3x1260 thru him as well.

BTW Zoom, you have an awesome tank! Do you like ozone? I'm going to be adding it soon.
Thank you :o
Yes i like ozone i only use it 4 hours a day just to keep the water clear it dos outstanding job .
if you start to use ozone be very careful not to use to much to fast it will clear your water overnight and burnt /bleach your corals.
do you have a picture of your H&S A-200-2x1260 running ?

Zoom, I take it you went with the Deltec over the H&S since all I see is Deltec equ in your sig... Why did you pick Deltec over H&S if you don't mind me asking...

I first bought the Deltec 851 over the one pump H&S because the skimmers was only full half way with bubbles i know some said it works just is good but din't cut it with me..
I was looking for a new skimmer for my FOWLR tank the fish was getting big so i decide to put the 851 on that tank and get a new one for the 200 Gallon tank.
I had three skimmers in mind BK A larger Deltec and the H&S A200-2x1260 the main two reason i din't get the H&S it was not in stack back then also it was much smaller body than any two pump Deltec actualy was the same body size as my one pump 851 Deltec , so with the excellent experience i had with my first Deltec i decide to get the 902 also i saw a Deltec Calcium reactor running in person and i really like the upflow design of there calcium reactor so i got one of them and so far the reactor exceed my expatiation, actually all of the Deltec equipment i have exceed my expectations.
