So according to what I read the tank has only been set up for 6 or 7 months. Maybe his growth is because he switches bulbs every 2 weeks. If fast growth is the goal I would try it. The tests I can imagine would have to be done by someone with lots of money and time.
It would be neat to try and copy his setup completely and see if you could duplicate the results.

I love examples that I can break out to show people when they tell me I have too much in my tank. I am lusting a 500 gallon+ tank, now. With the new arrangement, I have tried talking Jenn into an L shaped tank to fill the spot where my 125 and 120 are in the living room... Not enough margaritas for that one...

The tank has been up about 2 years and several colonies were transfered from previous tanks. The growth is still impressive.
