Thank you for your inquiry. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience. Unfortunately, we no longer carry the Formalin as it was discontinued by the manufacturer. We recommend the NO-ICH Marine to treat for parasites. This product is safe for fish and invertebrates and will not affect nitrifying bacteria. Please contact us with any other questions or concerns.

The manufacturer labeling does not contain a printed expiration date. We have conversed with one of our Aquatics Specialist regarding the Formalin. The formaldehyde in the product is a preservative and if stored properly it can be effective in the treatment of your specimens for many years.

Okay - could you tell me a bit more on the "stored properly" thing?
For the size bottle and how much you need to use it will last a lifetime; so that is why I am looking for more details on "stored properly". Right now I understand tightly closed and in the dark - anything else?

Formalin should be stored at room temperature in a dark area. This method is known to keep the formation of paraformaldehyde in formalin solutions from occurring according to Efficacy and toxicity of formalin solutions containing paraformaldehyde for fish and egg treatments: The Progressive Fish Culturist, v. 57, no. 2, p. 147-152.
