Forum Killed Because of a link to our non profit (reef) club?!?!?!

Too bad... and all because somebody posted a link to our club in their signature line??? Too bad I paid...

I mean the NORA forum with 3 active threads, discounting this one, in the last 5 days... I'm still, after reading the UA again, unsure of the problem posting the club's URL in a signature.

Maybe somebody could enlighten me but I don't get it.

I believe they do not allow url's of any kind in a signature. I got called on it a while back when I had my web address in my sig.

it wasn't the URL I believe-- it was "click my little red house" with nora site linked there. Maybe I'm remembering wrong-- you can ask Dwayne yourself though--- just not here...

there is more to the story-- lesson learned--if you want to keep your posting privlidges, don't defy the staff--

And.... be nice in PM's to the staff.

He had the url there first, they asked him to remove it. Then he put the "click on my little red house". They asked him to remove that too. It then got nasty, as I understand. I have seen them ask other members to remove the reference to their little red house in their sig before.

The forum does not have to be dead just because we are missing a couple of members. We just have a large void.

Here's the only rationale I can find:

"3. AVATARS, SIGNATURES, TITLES AND PROFILES: All terms and conditions of this User Agreement apply to these areas as well. An avatar or signature may not contain commercial names, graphics, logos or URLs."

I'm not an English Major but... I assume this means no commercial URLs. Nora in not a commercial entity. If that's not what it means and it's any URL period, then what does that say for graphics? Is it no commercial graphics for avatars or no graphics for avatars period. (see my signature...)

Not trying to be smart just trying to understand what prompted this whole thing. Am I still missing something in the UA?

I agree the forum doesn't have to be dead, but when you kick one of the most knowledgable members out and a lot of the others follow it is extremely crippled.

I can see how it could be interpreted to only apply to commercial url's however it can just as easily be interpreted to be any url. The only interpretation that matters is the one that the mods have!! :D

Might as well be

Sponcers can have their link in their red house. My guess is thats because they pay to have their link here on RC.

OK. I give.

Guess I should have had the UA deciphered for me before I paid so I could have understood all the ambiguity.

Have fun. C-Ya.:sad2: :wavehand:

You have to think about like this, RC gets paid by advertising, so why would they want you to lead their users to another forum. This is very typical and shouldn't suprise anybody, this is a business.

But there is a link to TRAC, CORA, C-SEA etc. I don't understand why NORA can't have one as well.

they don't allow linking to other forums.

www.cora.org vs. www.norareef.org

Guess I need a better explaination. Both non commercial and seemingly within the bounds of the UA as I read it.
