Hi Everyone,

Just checking and asking for help on your expertise, just wondering and curious about 3 things.

I've been seeing this white thread like stuff growing underneath my leather coral, this has caused the coral to retract most of the time and not extend fully, wondering if this is a pest as this is the first time I saw this.



Also my Finger leather coral has been discharging some mucus, wonder if this is normal, he kinda looks sad


And the Xenia too, not pulsing, i just moved it to a part where flow is lesser but still not pulsing and it looks weak.


did not measure any supplements due to a lack of resources, but did dose a reef iodide over the weekend.

here's the current measurements

ammonia : 0 ppm
nitirite : 0 ppm
nitrate: 5 ppm
pH : 8.2
Temp : 27*C
SG:1.024

To add, the Xenia was doing okay it was perched at the bottom of my tank beside some live rock , probably this is the 2nd day this has been looking weak, I have a Stichodactyla gigantea roaming around (w/c houses 3 of my False Percs), is it possible that the Anemone might have laid waste to this? or caused it to be like this?

Its very common for leather corals to close up for days or more as they shed a layer of skin or just go through a growth spurt..
They will come out of it when they are ready and be just fine...

The white stuff may just be some sponge growth and really shouldn't harm anything..

Just give it some time and I'm sure everything will be just fine..

Welcome!!!!

As stated above, it is common for them to close up for awhile while they shed skin and grow.

How old is the system? Rock and sand look pretty new.

Seems rather normal. Though I want to add that it's not recommended to dose things you can't test for. Like your iodine dose.

Had the tank up for 2months, purchased these corals from a friend who is on hiatus from the hobby, he's had them for like 2 years i believe.

Here's the leather now and the Xenia (moved it to the middle of my tank and it looks better compared to yesterday)

How long have they been in your two month old tank?

Also, how big is the tank? Do you have a sump? What kind of filtration, skimmer etc? Just curious to know the full picture, it will help in figuring out what your corals are dealing with.

Is it 2 months old total, including the cycle? It looks like you got a few established rocks from your friend, but the majority of them are new?

The display tank is an 85 gallon tank, I have a Reef Octopus Classic NWB-150ss, on a 50g Sump refugium, Resun CL-280 Chiller.

The tank is technically 3mos out of cycling now, outside of where the corals are perched the dry rock has slowly been getting growth already.

So far the corals are doing good
