My chiller was running warm so I looked in the phone book and found a company that will come to my house a recharge my chiller for $45 bucks! So for those of you that need this kind of service can call these guys...K.C. Refrigeration repair co. S.F. (415) 333-9949/ S.M. (650) 342-1499/ S.J. (408) 238-3235. I don't know if it's O.K. to post this on here but I remember someone asking about chiller rechargeing, moderators if this is not allowable then please remove.

From my understanding of cooling systems, is that if these are propery charged from the beginning, they will never need to be re-charged. If they need to be charged is because there is a leak in the system. Recharging it will only be a temporary solution in my opinion.

does anyone know what the average time it takes to cool a tank...like a formula or something...it seems it takes my 1/4 hp chiller a long time to cool 100 gallons or so...might need a recharge

I did have a leak, he drove to my house fixed the leak and charged it for 45. I thought that was pretty cool. yea my 1/3hp takes along time to cool my 155 also.

if it needs a recharge there is a leak. changing out the refridgerant will not make it more effective. if it is running fine just leave it alone. well you can recharge it if want to give money away.

I'm curious, does the chiller have to have a recharge valve or nipple to do the service?

I don't think my JBJ does and when I spoke to Andy at Teco he said Teco chillers don't either.

I have a super old chiller I bought... doesn't look like it's leaking, but should I recharge it before I hook it up, just to be safe? what should I look for? It's definitely not gushing out or whatever =)

umm it's a gas, so you won't "see" anything leaking out. (Unless it had UV it in VERY doubful and then you'd only see it with a black light

If it works I'd say it's fine, if not then get the leak fixed and recharge it.

Called them up and ask about the repair. Guy on the phone said they do not do chillers.

which one did you call? maybe it's only a certain location.

I called the 408 number. He gave me the 650 number and the guy quoted $65 just to come over and an additional $50-100 for freon and repair.
