I went a on a little trip to asheville with my wife and while she was dress shopping I popped in this old used book store and found a book by Peter Wilkens called Marine Invertebrates Stony Corals, Mushrooms, And Colonial Anemones. I paid 4 bucks for it!

Now this book is filled with information, it is very dated, but still awesome, plus it is full of beautiful colored pictures. When we got back to our place that night I decided to read this instead of the novel I brought with me, and man I learned a lot. Praised be to Peter Wilkens, I'm sure some of you know who he is, but I did not, but now I do. He is the Freakin man. If I am reading this right, he invented the protein skimmer or at least helped with it. He must be one of the most important pioneers in reefing. He calls zoanthids and palythoas, colonial anemones, and encrusting anemones. The book is very scientific in the way it describes the feeding of the corals, which i found very helpful. Im not 100% but I think he talks about bacteria die-off feeding corals, which i believe is the ideal behind bio pellet reactors. not sure if this technique was around when this book was written?

Well, anyways I just wanted to share what I thought was super cool, and my wife found mildly interesting at best haha.
