Found a Gorrila Crab in my nano...

I've never noticed any fish missing in my 75, but I do remember finding a claw with black tips once. Over time I had moved a few rocks down to the sump b/c the display was a little crowded.

So I got a nano a few weeks ago, and moved some rock from my sump to the nano. Low and behold last night while I was sitting at my computer I noticed something moving out of the corner of my eye. It was a little crab coming out of his bunker. I turned off the lights and got out a flashlight...yep, a gorrila crab. He doesn't come out much, but I think I'll keep him for the time being. How big can they get? I put a piece of shrimp in the tank last night hoping he'd eat it.

There are no fish in my nano, so I guess he won't be a problem? Do they mess with coral? He looks to be the size of a half dollar...

If he's going to be the main attraction of the tank, leave him in there! However, I definitely wouldn't add a fish in there with him. I had a small one that lived above my LTA and would swat at the clownfish everytime it got near..... The crab eventually got an awful lot bigger and the clown eventually got too close :S

IMHO fun addition to watch, but get him out before thinking about fish. I don't trust crabs at all anymore...I wouldnt have a single one in my tank had the hermit not been given to me!

Ohh, I def won't be adding any fish as long as he's in there. He's an ugly little bugger, that's for sure!

The only problem is him being the main attraction that doesn't come out to be seen. How will he do with hermit crabs and snails? I imagine he might snag a snail if he gets hungry.


Hopefully he'll get big enough so that he can't fit in his hole anymore and then he'll be visable more often...

I had this one in my Refuge for a couple of years.. He just vanished a couple months back. He got pretty big.. probably about the size of a Baseball.

LOL you know me and Shannon both said the Exact same thing.. The only think I found was a Claw..:eek2: I didn't see him for a month or so before I moved the tank.. There was an urchin in there also.. Maybe the urchin got hungry?

You never know though I found a Large snail hoofing it across the floor in my Equipment room yesterday.. Maybe the crap did the same thing:worried:
