anyone else have a vine like sponge grow in your gsp mats and smother it? if not, how much is it worth to you? :D

im guessing the only way to save it is to cut what i can off the rock, pull the sponge off and replant?

Are you sure it is a sponge? Usually GSP need light while sponges will try to grow away from it.

i have some purple sponge that likes the light... grows right along side and on my green elkhorn monti

same here I got lots of some sort of yellow encrusting-like sponge thats shaped kinda like bright yellow fire, grows in my gsp, around my clam under, over, around, through, everything. Light or no.

I have seen a nudibranch that eats GSP even looks almost like them now you just have to get a hold of some. I kind of doubt the sponge though.

GSP tends to develop some film over time which translates in detritus accumulation and even some cyano over it. This is why I think it retracts the polyps come times for the flow to clean it up. I try to help the process by using a tooth brush to clean it up once in a while.

I have a encrusting green sponge that grows in the higher light areas of the tank and in between my Palys. It must use photosynthesis in one way or another. My palys seem to grow better when the sponges are growing between them.

Can you brush it off with a toot brush or similar? That will help IMO.

Brass Monkey, I see detrius on the GSP and the rock, that is why you have that sponge and valonis growing on it.

No problem bubbly. Keep his site in your favorites, he has some really good IDs.

thats sand i added a few days ago. i have 2 maxi mod 1600s in my 40g breeder. a extra soft brush may get it off, but wherever it lands it grows. id have to pull that rock out of the tank. have about 10 different corals on that rock.

so im still undecided wheather i should leave it alone or try to scrub what i can off.
