not sure if any of you guys knew about this.. but there is a small shop on 58 just south of the large ginowan police station on the left hand side that builds fish tanks. Might stop in there and get a price on a new one..

ACO will also order tanks for you from a shop in Mainland I believe, and at a very decent price. Same place they get all of their tanks from.

could i get some directions to this place, from kadena?

thanks, Lionel

would love to man, but this is a small place and the only way you could find it is if you have someone that can read kanji with you.. and even then its hard to find.

its just south of the Ginowan Police station on the left hand side. store is only about 15 feet wide, squeezed in between other buildings and has a old blue fadded sign in kanji. nothing out front that would tell you it had anything to do with fish tanks..

well we tried to stop by there today.. but looks like no one was there.. the girlfriend got the phone number for the place, so ill post that up later if you guys want to give it a call.

Departed, have you been able to talk to the fish guy in there yet? My wife and I went in there one day and we're still not sure what to make of it? I had tp part in the gas station and humbly ask for permission to leave my car on the far side of the station while I walked over to the "blue-store." It has a rack on the outside witha blue van almost always parked in the from. When we went it, it seemed as if was breeding tangs (don't know if that's possible but) a tank for of BEAUTIFUL FISH...BIG TANK _ BIG FISH.....ahhhhhh....am more into reefing though.....;)

My wife is Okinawan and I asked her to ask him what this store is all about? When I went in it had nothing inside clueing me about tank-making (maybe in the back). He has this HUGE (and I mean huge) Fish-only acrylic, high-flow, tank dead center of the shop surrounded by other smaller tanks. Maybe we ****ed him off because I thought it was a traditional shop, pulled on the door which which shut but not locked (kinda the way people do to save AC) and we came up on him......he was washing a 5 inch yellow tank under the fresh water faucet of his shop - I figured he was removing a parasite, as saltwater critters can't STAND fresh water (some people use fresh water as a dip) anyways, posed our question while he was rinsing - received the universal facial sign of a scowl and he proceeded to throw the tang back in the tank and ingore us. I really thought maybe he was mute....that's why I asked if you had a chance to talk to him yet... Haven't been back yet, and usually catch it open Sats during the day...but my wife is not with me so I'm not stopping.

:p Welll guys, went to the place (with a japanese interpreter) and spoke with the "man on the sleeping couch." He said that although it states tank making on the sign out front they no longer do it. :hmm2: They pointed me to the acrylic man in Koza :fish2: that makes the sumps for the department stores like make-man. He is a "holding station" for licensed saltwater fish providers selling livestock (all fish and some anemone for the clowns) to purchasers in mainland Japan. Once the livestock is ready for shipment, the sellers picks up his livestock from their holding tanks, packages them, and express ship them to the buyer. He's got some large tanks leaning against the wall, but I think they're for store use.....I didn't want to ask anymore questions - I could tell he was hurtin'.....but he took the interogation well.

Departed, you can try to make on yourself. I've kicked the idea around a bit and its doable....acrylic sheets straight from the source would cut cost.

Now......the question is "how big baby!!!!" Pre cut sheets on Okinawa or in meters. think 1900x2400mm...I have the info somewhere.....

Acrylic sheets in any size can be ordered but the question is cost. Anything over 16inch will need something beefier than the regular 5mm and that will be special order. Muranaka did tell me that they can special order 13mm. Don't know how much it will cost per sheet though.

Marunaka charged me Y1850 for my glass syringe and anoher Y800 for the needles for my acrylic project. I was then turned on to the distributor in Urasoe....Bought 3 syringes @ Y700 each and a ton of needles. I too love glass although they don't keep water temp as regular/constant as acrylic....but someday ..just someday I will be able to afford a 4-sided Starphire glass tank over 250 gals in a temp/humidity controlled room ...maybe the whole first floor of a house here in Okinawa......ahhhh.....what a pleasure to dream such a dream......makes me want to go and get more in debt!! :eek1: :twitch:

Ooopps, sorry, forgot to mention that they sell the acrylics sheets of different thicknesses up to 20cm, egg-crate panels,AND they CUT the sheets to YOUR demensions.......for Y50 a cut of course. I took my projct to the courtney Hobby shop....if you go there, talk to Jim....he be Da Man
