I've read through the 'SPS pests and treatment options' thread but starting a new thread to hopefully get a bit more tailored advice for my situation.
I have 10 coral frags, of which two were acros, on a frag rack in my DT for about the past two months. I added 6 new frags to the tank last week which I got from a guy on craigslist. I inspect the frags as best I could and did a coral dip (not CoralRx though, one I got from a LFS which I feel I need to replace with a more reputable option for future additions) and then added the frags (two acros, two monti's, a birdsnest, and an acan). I was on vacation over the weekend, but when I got home and looked at my tank this morning, I noticed red bugs crawling all over one of the acros from my original batch of 10 (and not on any other acros).
I've read up on the treatments, and Interceptor seems like the best bet. However, given my setup constraints, I don't think treating the whole tank will be a feasible option because of my inverts in the tank and the difficulties I'd face with having to do multiple 25% water changes (have a 125 gallon tank but can't get 30 gallons of salt water made up for a water change with any amount of ease).
So my plan would be either a dip in Interceptor or to remove the acros from the tank and put them in a QT tank. My concern there would be that I don't have a very good filtration system for that tank (would just be a HOB filter and some powerheads and a non-cycled system) and also that I don't have any strong lighting for it, just a cheap-o PC set up.
If I do the dip, is there great concern over the red bugs existing in the tank just re-infecting my acros? If I go the QT route, how long should I leave the DT absent of the acros before putting them back in to make sure all the red bugs have died off with no host? Should I be removing and treating any other types of coral (monti, stylo, birdsnests, digitata)?
What would be everyone's recommended path if treating the DT isn't something I'm comfortable tackling?
Thanks in advance for any and all tips or advice. It is very much appreciated.
