found some new lights coming on market what do you think

Nice lights, but I have to wonder where they get off charging such an outrageous amount for LED's. Same goes for the other LED lights.

Companies act like they are expensive to get.

Ha, best part is, they charge a 2% restocking fee on a pre-ordered product.

"Cancellation may be subject to 2% restocking fee (at the discretion of Key Devices)"

HO (high output) LED's really are not all that cheap. But not nearly as expensive as they are charging. I think the prices are so high due to the technology that they come with. I would go with the SOLARIS before this one beings the prices are pretty close.

you think they both would make a cheaper version without controller and timers so they could be affordable for people who can not afford them so they can keep em i'll stick with t5's.

thanks mark will you have it posted in thereefstop.com when they do, or do you have any info or a link to check out

It won't be long before...

It won't be long before...

... they are like LED christmas lights. When they first hit the market they were very expensive. Now they are much more reasonable. Once the overseas manufacturers figure this out I think you will start to see cheaper versions available in many formats. The current manufacturing processes produce a lot of quality rejects for purity, color and beam angle. These rejects are available, if you can find them (Taiwan) you can get them for a fraction of the original price. Once the 1, 3 and 5 watt high power LEDs saturate the market, the prices will drop. Then it will be just a matter of finding the right color temperature and the DIY market will take off.

Here is a link to a site with easy instructions on building a moon light. The execution is not the best but the content is good. Picking a good color blue LED can make coral glow. I am not sure what to think of his claims of coral growth but I would bet that careful positioning can accent the looks of many corals. http://www.kaotica.com/frag/diy/moonlight/

The LEDs that are in my Outer Orbit light fixture are basic blue LEDs and they do an ok job accenting color. If anyone is interested in ordering a bulk order I will be placing one in the next week or so. I may get some UV LEDs jsut to play around with.

Sorry for the sort-of hijack

Each one of the Philips LED's they use in the Solaris costs $10.00. You have 25 of them per block. They are not cheap but at the same time nowhere close to what PFO is charging for the systems.

They are nice and I would love to have one over my tank but at the price they are right now I would have to marry a loaded old lady to afford them.

I was profoundly amazed at the introduction that SOLARIS had presented us with there light fixture. I too would love to have one over my tank. But I agree that I would have to hit it big in the lottery before my finances would allow for such.
