found something i dont like

upon inspection of my sump and preparing to do some filter changes to my cascade 1000 i noticed the only hose clamp i have submerged in the sump clamping a hose to the sump pump of my wet dry is very rusty ! is there a special type of hose clamp i need to be using ?

You can get plastic hose clamps in the lawn sprinkler section of lowe's or home depot. Salt water aggressively dissolves metals.

i will check that out . i was very worried that it might change my water or be putting harmful stuff in it. fish seem to be fine but sometimes i have a hard time with inverts

Your tank should be fine. I think about the worse thing that could happen with one rusty hose clamp in a 75g tank is the extra iron in the system may feed your algae. I wouldn't be too concerned. I'd definitely replace it with a plastic clamp, though.

iron oxide (rust) shouldnt be a problem in small amounts, I assume you had a steel clamp. if it was another material, let us know. i'd just use a zip tie if I were you.

thanks. i am a little nervous using a zip tie. it is going on a 1" diameter feed line back to the tank but i will give it a shot.

the plastic clamps work semi-well, but not great. Over-engineer it with a pair of the clamps, more if it'll fit on the nipple. Then reinforce it with zipties.

Better option, though, is to replace the whole works with PVC materials, though you might not be able to do that depending on your situation.

If it's a tight fit already, a thick zip tie or two should be plenty for a submerged pump. It's all I've used for quite a while.
