I have recently retired from keeping a reef and will be moving on to a FOWLR. I was wondering what flow you guys have in your tanks. I will be setting up a 130 with a sump. When i had the reef it was like 20x the tank volume.
It really depends on the fish you want to keep. Lions and puffers generally don't appreciate a ton of flow. But if you want tangs and angels, more the better. I have about 60x in my 125 (not a true fowlr though).
I really think good flow is a must for FOWLR...... keeps detritus in suspension and keeps fish fit and healthy..... LR works better and everything seems to thrive better with good flow....
20x tiems is about a minimum for my personaly preference - 10 times would do, but 20 is much better..... I have 40-50.
Thx everyone. Looks like i'll stay pretty much where i was. I admit i did forget about the poop thing! I am also thinking a ssb and right now i have approx. 100#s of rock. Also was going to put rock in the sump instead of bio balls. Still in the planning stages.
