What type of lighting has anyone had the most success with on their FOWLR tanks. I have been fighting Algae and am wondering what type is best or what type of cycles everyone is using. Thanks
If your bulbs are old and the spectrum has shifted the lighting could cause algae (generally the red spectrums). FOWLR tanks don't really need any special lighting - just whatever you think looks good.
The daylight regular 32 or 40 watt 4 footers from Home Depot are great for fish only setups. Philips Altos. Their cheap and you can replace 4 for I think $28. I use these bulbs to grow our patio plants for overwintering in the basement.

I know that's the general consensus, but when I replaced very old bulbs with new (compact fluorescents), my algae growth took off.
The older bulbs did give too much of a yellow tint.
