FOWLR nano wetpet

Hello everyone new here

Might be a bit of an odd topic but I want to do a FOWLR nano tank with just one really personable "show fish". Something that is not shy, relatively active, and will greet me when I come near the tank. During my research I have found it east to find personable large fish(emperor angels, porcupine puffers, etc) but finding fish for a nano is proving to be more difficult. I would prefer something on the hardier side. If people could give me their experience with certain fish to give me a jumping off point that would be great. I have not gotten the tank yet but it will be between 10-24 gallons nano(30 gallon max size I am willing to go).

Here are some fish I have been looking at...
-female maroon clown
-fuzzy dwarf puffer
-angels

Again they do not have to be compatible with anything because I am only keeping that one fish with maybe some cleaner invertebrates. I have been keeping fish for almost 9 years but mostly freshwater(dabbled in saltwater a couple times).

Any advice apprecieted :D

My Molly Miller blenny gets excited every time it sees me. It'll swim from anywhere the in the tank to the front to watch me. They get about 4 inches.

There is a big difference between fish that would work in a 10gal and a 20 gal. IMO, any angel is out. The maroon or small puffer would work in a 20, but not a 10. Here's some help:http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/aquarium-fish-supplies.cfm?c=15+2124

Well I said 10-24 just to give a range of what fish I would like size wise. I do not have the tank yet so the tank will be chosen based on the size of the fish. In other words I do not plan on putting a maroon clown in a 10 gallon. And there's a typo I defiantly meant to say fuzzy dwarf lionfish not puffer not even sure that is a species of puffer.

I like the hawkfish they look pretty cool I will have to do some mores research. Cannot say I am a huge fan of the blenny though.

court jester goby (Amblygobius rainfordi) A very little fish with tons of personality

cool fish but they seem to be a bit difficult to feed based on a quick Google search because their feeding habits are similar to mandarins.

Sorry about that, I try to suggest good hardy fish, guess i'm lucky, had one for years in a 40 breeder. Happy and fat. I did have a fuge going and feed cycoleeze for corals. Sold him when moved.

Try a rooster waspfish; 3ish inches long at full size, fairly easy to feed if you give him meaty foods, and would probably be happy in even a 10g. They aren't incredibly active, but they're very smart and will learn to greet you.

Another thing to consider when choosing an aquarium is the dimensions of the tank (IMO just as important as volume). For example, a 20 gallon long (30" X 13" X 13") aquarium is going to be more appropriate for most fish than a 20 gallon tall (24" X 13" X 17"). Maybe look into Pseudochromis fridmani if you are planning on keeping only one fish in the tank.

Okay so did a little bit of looking around and considered the fish suggested. I have 4 tanks laying around. A 10 gallon, a standard 20L, a 10L(Same dimensions of a 20L but half the height) and a 29. I realized that I love predatory fish and clowns. The rooster redfin waspfish seems really cool and interesting and I can see me keeping them in mt 10L or regular 10.

On the other hand I also really like the fuzzy dwarf lion as well as the maroon clonw(single female) for my 29. But they are on the larger side on what I am willing to go.

Does anyone have experience with the waspfish? There is not a lot of info online.

I had a Stonogobiops nematodes that was really personable in my 12 gallon. Ate anything meaty, and was always interested when I came around.

I still think that a skunk cleaner is about the most entertaining thing you can put in a nano. They beg for food like crazy and are always interested in what you're up to.

I would say a fuzzy in a 29g. Id say the extra 30g would be worth it. I used to have one (had a baby and didnt trust her not to bug my lion and get stung, kids are far too fast) but he now has a new home.

I honestly loved that fish so much he would greet me when i came into the room. When my daughter gets older I will most likely get another

As in the skunk cleaner shrimp? Honestly years a go when I had a 10 gallon nano reef the most interesting part of the tank wasn't the clowns or the damsels but it was watching the interaction between the invertebrates. I used the throw a piece of meat in there at night and watch the crabs and shrimp scurry all over and fight for the meal. Maybe the goby with some small inverts in a 10 gallon could be an option?

Hmmm. I really did not want to deal with the 3ft length but it seems a lot of fish I want to keep need a 30. Would the 29 I have be too small for the fuzzy? Also does anyone want to chime in about the clowns? Still looking at clarkii, maroons, or tomato clowns. Was also looking at cockatoo waspfish.

Oh and gorgeous fuzzy! The lions are really starting to grow on me more and more.

I have a Fuzzy Dwarf Lion at my store, and he's a great fish. A real pain in the neck sometimes haha, but a great fish nontheless. Most of the day, he's out and about with his fishy friends, but when I come over, he's upside down at the water's surface begging for food haha. Eats anything and everything I offer, including flakes, mysis, brine, prawn, etc. Had to start him on live guppies, but he took the transition to frozen quite well, and now I have him eating everything. This fish and I have a special bond haha, I tell all of my customers how he will most likely be my first experience being stung by a fish. The only reason I say this is because of how he hangs out at the surface of the water; he gets so close to me that he disappears behind the black rim of the tank, so when I'm feeding everyone, he'll literally be inches away from my hand haha. I've learned to check the surface for him before I feed. He's like a very hungry puppy you can't pet hahaha, but I love him regardless. If you decide on a 29g, they really are fun to watch/keep.

I think the 29 would be fine for a fuzzy, but save yourself a headache and get one that eats frozen, and ask to see it fed

Yea I think i will go with the dwarf fuzzy. Seems like a really cool, interesting, interactive fish. I know you said get one that eats frozen but I really want to grow one from a baby. How hard are they to train to eat frozen? Also anybody know good online retailers to find one?
