Last but not least, my spotted snake eel. I've had this fish for right about 4.5 years now and it's grown quite a bit. It's a meter long and about 1.5" in diameter. This guy is by far my favorite fish. I've two other banded snakes that are much smaller that I'm keeping in the QT tank until they are fat enough not to pass thru the down pipe grate... :(

There is a feeding video under the Semilarvatus forum that I put up over the weekend.

I do not have aggression issues with the AT's. This IMO is due, in part, to the size of the large fish (9+") vis a vis the smaller ones (~4-5"). The two youngest will chase each other in small circles, but there is no beating up (even with the PBT).

I've QT'd each AT for 4 weeks in Cupramine at 0.6 m/g levels. I do this with all fish.

Re ich. Yup, have had issues. The most recent being over the summer when I put in new live rock, which, BTW, had been QT'd for 8 weeks. I Cupramine'd the tank and I shall be replacing / adding new live rock in the spring when I can get new Fiji rock.

Wow!

whenever you have some spare time, i'm sure there are plenty others that would love to see a video of the entire tank with four achilles tang in action.

DT: 2M x 0.8M x 0.9M, sump is 3/4 the DT volume. Sump-wise it's a simple set up. First chamber is filter media to catch the large stuff and I've an army of snails here. Second chamber holds the Reef Octopus skimmer (which takes one full cup of skimate out a day, ~one gallon cup), then into the live rock / sand chamber, then into the return pump chamber which holds about 2 liters of carbon media, which is changed out every month. If I could do it all over again, I'd add another chamber just for calupera like I have on the SPS tank. This, however, I'm waiting to do until I build out the big tank next year. The live rock chamber also holds all of the airheads. The final chamber is also getting a Bio-Ball reactor in about a month. I want to see how this works in this tank and I'm all for over cleaning of the water...

Beautiful tank! Thanks for the info in the other thread about your sump... I like it. I'll be doing something similar with my FOWLR upgrade. Some questions: How often do you replace or clean the filter media in the first chamber? Do you have a problem with detritus in the liverock chamber? What sort of lighting do you use, and how much/often is it on? I am asking because I am pretty unhappy with the amount of algae on the rocks in my current FO, but I also don't own a single tang, and was hoping not to.

BTW I had a snake eel just like that one many years ago... it was by far my favorite fish that I've ever kept. One day I'll find another one.

I clean the top two layers every two weeks (there are four layers in total). I've not had a problem with detritus in the LR chamber, and I'm not sure I would considering the number of crabs et all that inhabit the LR. RE the Algae, I've not had a problem in this tank due to the number of vegetarians swimming around. That said, I only keep one MH light on in the tank from 10am until 9pm positioned just at the edge of the rock and at the beginning of the sand bed. It's a 14K bulb that is switched out once a year.

I've had an algae growth issue in the SPS tank as you've seen and I just added a 4" A. maculiceps to help there. I'm likely going to add another Ctenochaetus or my current mission impossible a white and yellow koi form Zebrasoma. I had gotten the algae down to a very nice level earlier this year before I decided that 1) I did not like the way the SPS had been growing on the current rock and 2) I needed to remove a Bodianus.

Currently, I just farm out a tupperware bowl of algae every few days out of the SPS tank and dump it in to the FO tank. That's fun to watch!

Any pictures of the maculiceps tang? Wondering how his color is. I just ordered one and his color is pretty dull. Wondering if its due to his size of just shipping/QT stress.

They're always dull when they first come in due to the stress. I'll snap some pics later this weekend and post, but mine has taken to a darker coloration since having been placed in the SPS tank.
