get a planted tank! even greener and grows even faster (and less environmental impact)! :strooper:

planted freshwater? we have one of those too. my daughter has a little 20g. i'm not very good with the plants tho. and she's even worse. :0)

do you have any pics?

The 140g will be mostly FOWLR... I may have a few leathers and what not in there... I have to pick up some bulkheads before I set it up though... More than likely it will have to wait until over Thanksgiving or Christmas break to be set up...

I just got a new Imperator Angel... :) So I will keep whatever corals it won't eat... :D

randy, do you know of a site that talks about different kinds of macro algaes? i looked around a little, and am just finding the normal ones, but i've got a couple growing that i don't know what they are. one of them i saw growing in a tank at SA, it looks like a feather. another almost looks like a delicate reddish clove coral. i just wanna make sure they're not harmful.

thanks! melevsreef.com helped...one of them is feather caulerpa, the other i didn't see. it may even be some sort of coral. i dunno. we've got all kinds of strange things popping up. pink sponge and something that looks like a fat tick with polka dots. another leafy macro that is growing like crazy. and small purple "sticks". i think i've got a bit of halimeda that is starting to grow out of a rock too. i may have to take some pics, tho the camera isn't great.

Does the "fat tick with polka dots" have two holes??? If so, its likely a sea squirt or tunicate... They're beneficial and shouldn't be worried about...

Sometimes even bad pics can help id some things... Then again sometimes they're useless... ;)

I wouldn't mind getting some algae to grow in my tank...not feather caulerpa though. Watch out because that stuff take over in no time flat!

It's nearly impossible to get rid of as well.

What other kind of macroalgae would you guys recommend, not feather or razor caulerpa. I guess if my lights cycle off and on, then I'm better off without it altogether because it might go sexual and kill off my stuff?

www.Reefcleaners.org has the best selection and by far the best prices I've seen on macroalgae (3x the selection of marineflora.com and much cheaper, and they actually have stuff in stock). I'd love to do a group buy there if there is enough interest (as I mentioned elsewhere) to get some macros and inverts. Free shipping on >$100 group order and 25% discount if we link to their site off ours. If that doesn't work out, we could at least order together and split the shipping or some such.

sure. Here's a pic of our 75g and a 10g (shrimp only for now...yet to add fish). I like 'high tech' softwater type plants and keep a lot of rare and newly imported species...basically the freshwater equivalent of SPS snobbery. :)

wow! beautiful! you've got a real green thumb!!

mel, i've read that the feather stuff doesn't go sexual, thank goodness! its definately growing quickly, but i don't have a problem throwing away handfuls if i need to.

If you go to the next meeting I can bring you some of this cool red macroalga in the right corner if you want some (free). No idea on the ID...
