foxface question

I've had a foxface for a few months now and it doesn't have a black spot near it's tail like most of the other ones I've seen do. You can see the outline of the spot and I think it might be getting darker... does this spot appear as the fish matures or something?

no there is one with a spot and one without.. they dont grow a spot. the outline you see might be from time to time when its stress that it tends to get dark spots.... personally i like the magnificent foxface...

From what I know there are different varieties of that fish, mine does not have any trace of a black spot by its tail, but the more common ones do.

are these fish even reef safe?
Debatable. It's clear they're not 100% reef-safe, or even 75%. But you've got a decent shot.
