I'm in love with this fish.
Ive been running my new system for about 1and a half months already.
I have 2 chromis 2 snowflake clowns,Oregon tort, kryptonite candy cane,
Neon green hammer
My levels are : salinity 1.025
Ammonia 0
Phosphate 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 0
Calcium 420
Alk 7
My question is should I get a foxface?
Is it really territorial?
I know it's reef safe "with caution" as long as I keep it well fed.
Will I be able to get other fishes later like : tangs, wrasses, mandarin goby
With no problems
Will my tank be large enough

BTW I have a 30x30 rimless cube

And comments it concerns please!!
Happy reefing!!

You already answered the question "yes," b/c you really dig them. I'd suggest getting a juvenile via an online shop.

You're going to get a slew of know-it-all folks telling you they can't be housed in that sized tank, as they seem to have the pulse of fish down somehow. That said, I think it'd be fine. If it gets too big you can upgrade tank size or re-home it with a fellow reefer, which is always the approach to keeping stock.

Your best bet is to get one at an online shop like saltwaterfish.com - they have $99 free shipping specials several days each week - because you can call them and ask to send one of the smaller foxfaces. You're not going to get that type of selection at an LFS.

I'd suggest against it. When I had a Foxface in my 90 it was hiding, ****ed off and unhappy. Now in my 210 it eats from my hand. If you absolutely must, get a One Spot Foxface, they grow smaller.

its gunna feel cramped in a 30x30 tank. I have a 1 spot in my 58g (36x18) that is going into my 210 soon (when it finishes the cycle), he grew from 1" to around his current 4" in one year and he is showing signs of being cramped in the 58. I already had the 210 before I purchased him though so I had an upgrade path waiting for him.

a 30 cube is like 115 gallon right? the literature, for what it's worth, calls 40 gallon as a minimum for a foxface. i had a 6" foxface that i took as a foster fish and had it in a 55 gallon for eight or nine months before i was able to find a home for it, and it didn't complain.

I have a 6" Magnificent in my 125. I QT'd it in my 46BF. It was very obvious that a 3' long tank is not nearly long enough for these guys IMO. I would say 4' minimum x 18" width personally. They are not the biggest of swimmers, but every now and then do like to go the length of the tank a few times.

I second the one-spot. It looks and acts exactly the same, except it has a spot and get a couple inches smaller.

I just did a lot of research and finally decided to order a one-spot foxface for my 72 gallon...like others have mentioned, they stay a little smaller at adult size than the others, which made me more comfortable with the decision.

If at any point it should ever start to show signs of being unhappy with its living arrangements in the next three years, I also have a local LFS that would be happy to help me rehome him. (I will be moving three years from now and a move is ALWAYS a great excuse for acquiring a larger tank!)

I sort of inherited a Foxface Lo, and while it's not my fav or prettiest fish; it is one helluva nice fish for a reef tank. Doesn't pick at any of my corals, very peaceful, eats nori from my hand, etc. But it has grown at least 3 inches in the past 6 months. So I understand why LA says 125 gal minimum for them (my tank is 5-foot 150 gal).

I had a Lo in my 75g, got him as a tiny juvenile but he did grow fast. Was honestly my favorite fish but when he got bigger in only like a year he was definitely stressed a lot and in turn stressed everyone else out. Water volume wise he might be fine but I would wonder about swimming room. Now he may be completely fine but just be prepared to catch and rehome him if you see stress in the future.

FWIW mine never bothered any coral in my mixed reef and as a bonus he loved bubble algae so any that popped up he quickly got rid of it.

Mine tries to rip it out of my hand before I can get it into the clip. Sometimes he succeeds, the little bugger.

That's been my experience with my One Spot, as well. Usually just hangs out in a few spots in my 90g, then sometimes darts across the tank just because.

As others have said, they grow crazy fast, and put on a lot of girth.
