Sounds good to me...:) I think you'll be happy. Never having used the 100-400 I am only commenting from hearsay and the fact that I do love my 300mm prime. With your crop factor you'll have a killer wildlife lens.

Yeah, it's not my job either (thank God), but keep shooting and you'll be selling stuff soon enough. Just posting on sites like this and other forums can start the ball rolling. That's how it started for me. A scout saw a shot I posted and asked me to submit it for a travel photography book she was looking for images for. Friends, family of friends, and on and on. Start doing 16x30's and you won't be just giving prints away anymore (inks too darn expensive)!

Once I've owned the 100-400 for a while, maybe we could do a little lens swapping for a month or something ;) You can try out the 100-400 that way and I can try out the prime.
 
Fox are so skittish those are lucky timing. Great shots. I saw one a week ago and cam was at home. Also saw a brand new fawn still wet and hardly able to walk this week. Gonna have to keep cam in the car.
