Frag gluing advice?

Hello all, vikinglord here, or vl for short.

First I'd like to thank everyone for the support they give one another. I've learned a lot just from reading threads on this forum, and your willingness to help and support each other is why I joined, so thanks!

I purchased a colony of zoanthids, online, and in transit the colony broke off the plug. Well, little did I know about coral colonies, I just hoped they would establish themselves on some rock. Well, after a few weeks of the colony washing around, a few polyps dying/breaking off, there are now three living polyps left (from what I can tell) and it seems they have established a home "“ I haven't seen them move in about a week.

Anyways, now that they're established, I'm worried about the other coral I have. Seeing as I'm in the military and will move around every few months to few years (ideally) I can't permanently glue them to rock. So I thought about gluing them to larger plugs (or ceramic plates?) and just dislodging the plates as I have to move from place to place, then re-gluing them. Does anyone know if that idea would actually work?

I also have a gorgonian colony. I figured I would stick its base in the substrate (at the time I didn't have glue) and it seems to be doing well like that. Does anybody happen to know if having the base buried will kill the rest of the colony? The polyps seem to like the location in the tank so I'm worried about moving it at this point.

Sorry for the long-winded post. Thank you in advance!

I don't see any reason you couldn't glue the corals to a larger plate, but I lot of reefers drill holes into their live rock and then stick the end of the frag plug into the hole, making them easy to remove.
The buried end of your gorgonian will likely die, but the rest of the stock and colony will be fine. If it does get blown to a different location you can glue it to a small rock and bury the rock in the sand where you like it.

i agree with thegrun.. just remember some Corals yo cant Glue. Mushrooms being one of them.. I place them on a rock i want them to be on . then i have a piece of 3 inch pvc 2 inchs talll with 1/4 inch mesh over the top. I WILL PLACE the pvc over the coral with the rock i want it on under it . leave it there for a about a week and it will attach itself..
There are best practices for DIfferent corals so you will just have to check as you go..

Just cut off the plug portion and simply super glue or epoxy it to your rockwork. And yes certain types of corals like softies just need to be set on the location you want and lower your flow so they can attach.

Yep, meant blowing.

McGeezer, my concern is since I'm in the military and will have to move every few years if I glue it to the rock work the colony will expand and it would be difficult to then remove it from the rock work.

They will expand and grow over the plug and onto your rock anyways.

thanks for the link hkgar! Glad I didn't have any problems when I was first messing with the zoas. Will keep in mind to buy/wear gloves next time.
