Frag Mags

Jeff the glass on your tank is quite thick, a bit thicker than average I'd say. Make sure you get the large, or which ever ones have the strongest magnets.

Much safer that way...

I think I'm going to order a few of those for my 58 (Oceanic). You think I'll also need the large size? I don't know how thick my glass is.

thank you chad.

Howie I don't want to buy theirs, I want to make my own with stronger magnets. I'm sure it'll cost less than $6 each. I can't justify spending that.

I just on planning to put small frags on them and when they get larger I'll put them up for sale or put them in a rock somewhere.

Jeff,

keep in mind that the force needed to seperate a mag or magnets from each other by pulling them in opposite directions, will be somewhat more than the amount of force needed to seperate the same two magnets by using some sort of sideways pressure.

If you build them, decide on a magnet, then get one stronger.

The magnets I am guessing are rated at force needed to seperate from each other by pulling straight apart.

When using them in tank they will be mounted horizontaly and with weight on one side. The force needed to sperate a magnet by "sliding: them apart is less than the force needed to simply pull them apart. The pulling force will be less prevalent in the tank than the lateral sliding force of the frag sliding down the glass.

I think thats what he was getting at but I am not sure if I explained it any better. Let me know what you get and how you do it so I can copy your example.

did I explain it better and more importantly is that what you were trying to get at ?? Pictures would explain this better.

Yes... much clearer...

here's an example

ok makes sense. Howie shot me a PM and put it in words that a 5 year old could understand. So now I understand.

The thing is, my glass is REAL thick so I'm not using the magnets on the glass. I'm going to use it on the overflow which is obviously MUCH less thick than the glass and will make it possible to have a lot more pull being used. (Now I don't know if that last sentence makes any sense)

no I haven't i'm sure I can do a group order. shoot me a pm with how many you want and i'll place an order monday. I haven't decided which ones to use yet though. probably those ones from kj since I can't find any larger coated mags but I'll look again tonight. I don't really want to pay $3 a mag
