frag plug ?

Are frag plugs made of clay? I am a ceramic artist and I wondered if I could make my own. If they can be made from clay are there any stipulations such as firing range or vitrification?

Thanks,

Tiffany

As long as they don't leach anything harmful back into the water they should be OK. Not sure what they are made of though!!

Ceramic is fine. I've been using ceramic frag plugs for a while now, but I'm glad to know that you can do some because my current supplier is done!

I was getting mine from Tomoko in the North Alabama Reef Club. She told me that she and her daughter would just sit in front of the TV and kind of mindlessly make them (I don't think it takes too much... they're a pretty simple shape :) ). She would then take them to a local ceramic shop where they would fire them for her. Thats where the problem lies... the ceramic shop she was using just shut down.

She sold them for $0.25 each. Maybe it could be some money on the side, Tiffany! Help pay for those awesome T5s. :D

You may want to send her a PM and ask her what she used, but as far as I know it was just basic ceramic.

I love them as plugs! I've used them a lot and have had absolutely 0 problems out of them. In fact, I think the frags I sold you a couple of months ago were probably on ceramic plugs. :)
