frag rack. egg crate light panelling. concerns.

I'm building a frag rack out of the typical diffusing egg crate light panels. I've seen white and black versions, obviously the black was sprayed painted. I don't mind it, but I'm sick of the slim all black look adorned to so many tanks. White bounces around light better so I figure, why not, could brighten up my tank. My question is : should I spray this already white panel with a safe white spray paint? My concern if i don't would be leaching plastics. I'm am cutting it and all, so many edges do not have the polished finish and are raw or abrasive. I feel like these raw, cut ends will deteriorate or leach something over time.. But if i can avoid spending the 5$ for spray paint, i know so expensive, i would.

Also I was going to make a few tiny 2-3" x 5-6" racks affixed by magnets to put on the sides of a small display tank. I bought ~3$ magnets from my local Lowes that are tiny ceramic block magnets that look like natural magnets (color I mean, not the black coated ones we're used to). I was figuring I should paint these too to hopefully avoid rust. My second question is : I can expect these to rust right? or are the completely safe?
