Frag swap bonus round rules

BONUS ROUND RULES

There will be two types of bonus rounds at the swap. The first is the tier one corals (EF1), for corals that qualify as true rare/exceptional frags. The second type of bonus round is tier two (EF2) frags. These are corals that are outstanding and gorgeous but not quite up to the standards of tier one. See pre-approved list below.

Bonus round tickets will be issued at the frag check-in table.
For every 3 tier one frags, you will receive one EF1 bonus ticket.
For every 3 tier two frags, you will receive one EF2 bonus ticket.

They can be the same coral or 3 different corals as long as they are on the pre-approved tier one or tier two list.
* There is NO LIMIT on how many bonus round tickets you may have.

Picking rounds are timed and will be as follows:
Bonus EF1a, EF1b, EF2a, EF2b,
Round 1 A, B, C, D, E, F
Round 2 F, E, D, C, B, A
Round 3 A, B, C, D, E, F
Round 4 F, E, D, C, B, A

Bonus round will work like this:
The first 2 groups are EF1 bonus picks, group 3 &4 are EF2 bonus picks. Tickets will be shown at entrance and collected at exit. 1 ticket/1 frag pick.
-Group1 (EF1a) You must have at least two EF1 tickets to pick in this round. You will be allowed to use one EF1 ticket /one pick.
-Group2 (EF1b) You may use up to 3 EF1 tickets, 1pick per ticket. All picks must be made in the allotted time.
-Group3 (EF2a) You must have at least two EF2 tickets or one EF1 ticket to pick in this round. You will be allowed to use one EF1 or EF2 ticket/one pick.
-Group4 (EF1b) You may use up to 3 EF1 or EF2 tickets, 1pick per ticket. All picks must be made in the allotted time.

Anyone still holding tickets after the bonus round may use 1 ticket each in the general rounds. That means if you have a ticket you may pick one frag for your regular pick and one for the ticket (exit with 2 frags) for that round. Because there is no limit on how many tickets you may have, there is a slim chance you will not be able to use all your tickets. Number of rounds is determined by how many frags are checked in. You are guaranteed at least 3 rounds of regular picking.

so if you only have 1 ef1 ticket you cant partake in the first group 1 pick....?.....mike

Yeah - confusing and ???? I'm all for rewarding those who bring in EF. But watching four picks with people picking up to eight frags before us powh-folk get a chance to pick - just seems to send the wrong message, IMHO. Alas, I'm happy to go and have frags ready!

I know it's hard to satisfy all parties and it's easy to sit on the sides and say, 'why did you do that?' I do apprecitate all the work it took to this point, especially to come up with that seemingly complex set of EF rules, and am looking forward to a good and fun swap. I am interested to see how this one works out.

Thanks to the entire 2010 MARS SWAP Committee.

That's the way I read it. With only one EF1 ticket, one would get to pick in round EF1b. I beleive this way it encourages people to bring more rare corals if they really want to take advantage of the EF portion of the swap.

That sounds very complex...lol. Will there be a round picking translator on hand?? (j/k) ;)
It is really not that hard, but we'll make every effort to make sure everyone understands.

so if you only have 1 ef1 ticket you cant partake in the first group 1 pick....?.....mike
That is correct, you must have at least two EF1 tickets to pick in group1 (EF1a).

Sorry, It is not meant to be confusing.
In theory someone could pick up to 8 frags in the first 4 rounds. However in order to do that they would have to bring 24 EF frags. That means after the bonus rounds are done, there is still 16 EF frags waiting on the table for the regular rounds.
I think that gives people a pretty good chance to get a nice coral even in the later rounds.

:spin2:
So I bring 9 EF1 frag's I can pick in first round.
Then Second round using my last 2 tickets ?
So I get 3 EF1 frags ?
Then bring 3 more none EF1 or EF2 frags to pick in the normal rounds ?
Sorry I'm trying to see if I understand this

Thanks Auntbeez! I realized shortly after that post when I reread and did a DOH! Yes, 24 EF1 frags to get to pick the max 8 frags in the first four bonus rounds.

I like it. Somewhat confusing still yes, but I like it.

OK another question....................
Where is the list of EF1 and EF2 corals ?
I found the aproved list on MARS site but there are only a few corals ?
At one time I thought there was a longer list.
I could be wrong since I don't follow any of this stuff............

The list seems pretty long to me. I like the format also. The EF rounds will be over quickly and they will encourage people to bring a lot of nice stuff, hopefully.

lol, i was confused at first :hammer: a few ppl contacted me saying they are confused about it. someone asked me why a voted coral that was voted non ef made it to ef status. i told em, i'm not part of the frag swap committee. putting together one of these events is alot of work. i commend the people who put in their time to make it happen.

I understand the list length confusion. The list you say, Mike, in in addition to this list:

http://forums.marineaquarist.org/index.php?tid=3179&title=Pre-approved_EF_List

The list you saw was just the compiled voting results. I think the voting process was overall a success and saved a tremendous amount of judging work. Somebody probably made a fair judgement call for that one coral given it's large number of EF1 votes. Placing it into EF2 was probably very correct. I think we could make an allowance for that in the voting rules at future swaps. At the moment, I think it was the right decision. It wasn't me, though :)

Here is the pre-approved list including the newly added ones that were voted on.
The Captain America Paly's were placed in EF 2 because of the number of EF1&EF2 votes out weighted the Not EF votes. The committee decided this was fair.

I'm just tierd and confused for the most part lol.
I couldn't find that list to save my life

These rules are good for the people who do not have much EF corals. Hopefully they will know later on how to share the love. I know I did. =)
