Frag Swap- Pensacola, Fl

I browse this forum quite a bit, but I don't post much. I know some of you live in the Mobile area. I thought I'd let these folks know that the Florida Panhandle Reefkeepers Society is having it's quarterly meeting/frag swap on May 4, 2008 in Pensacola. The local Petland store was kind enough to offer their conference room for our use. There is no fee and you don't have to be a club member to attend and participate. I'd love to see some of our Alabama neighbors join us.

scootman... "frag swap"... just what exactly is that? i get the trading frags part but what if you're just starting out and have nothing to trade? are there frags for sale?

Good question, they are called swaps but really consist of local hobbiest renting tables and selling there own homegrown frags. So just bring cash and get there early and you can sometimes get some nice pieces.

If Nashville isn't too far to go, Pensacola certainly isn't either. What are the details? Will you have room for people to bring tanks, etc.? Electricity? Is there a forum?

I've got to be honest with you all, The February meeting was my 1st and only frag swap. No one rented a table and it was just a group of locals who brought out items they had in their tanks. I didn't have any corals to swap, but I did buy some nice pieces and very reasonable prices. For those of you who are interestd in going, I'd suggest ya'll pop over to our area on RC click here and ask any questions you may have.

Our host is Petland. They will also be participating in the frag swap. I spoke to the fish department manager yesterday. He says they are planning on having a larger than normal shipment that weekend just for this meeting.

My intention was to notify those of you who may be near this area. Mobile is only 45 minutes West of here, so that's local as far as I'm concerned. We're a small club who has recently organized ourselves. Our membership isn't large, but we're growing. I'm not sure if this is going to be enough to justify a long trip, but I certainly think those who are nearby will find the drive over worth it.

Our club has quarterly meetings which is when we have the frag swap. I was giving you the link to the RC area where the bulk of our club's members post comments.

The link SWINGRRRR posted is the thread where our club President announced where and when the next meeting will take place.

There will be other threads started regarding swap items and specific details, so you may want to visit the panhandle club area of RC every now and then. Sorry if I confused anyone.

I just wanted to post a final reminder for those of you who are near Pensacola Florida (Mobile, Baldwin & Escambia Counties). Our frag swap will take place tomorrow. There will also be a DIY workshop on building space saver refugiums. Hope to have some of our Alabama neighbors join us.
