I have some extra equiptment laying around my house and I want to set up a frag tank. the aquarium will be a 40 gallon breeder. I will be useing a bak-pak protien skimmer and an aquaclear power filter. is this enough filtration? do I need live rock?

I have some live rock in the bottom of mine tank thats it. Lots of flow and 5g water changes a week. Ill let you know how it goes.

Depends what you plan on growing in your frag tank. I'm a big advocate of heavy skimming so I personally wouldn't use a bak-pak on anything larger than a tiny quarantine tank. Then again, I'm not a fan of CPR products.

My 20g prop tank is fed from my heavily skimmed main tank, but not before water passes through a second skimmer treated with ozone first.

If you have a CPR try it out, it may work just fine on your system. I used one on a 120 for a year without any problem. You will know when you need to upgrade, so if you have it and want to get started go for it.
