Fragged a Toadstool Today!

I know, not the most advanced thing in the world to do, but still was nervous to actually cut it up.

I had it in my 20g and it was touching 2 sides of the tank at once when fully out and making a lot of shade.

Everything went smooth and both the mother colony and frags look happy all in all.

Thanks to the forums for giving me the info necessary to do it.

Congrats! How about some before and after pics? I have a green polyp toadstool that I've been eyeing with a razor blade...and a devil's hand, but that one may go to my local coral shop for some credit. I bought it, when I first saw it, I thought it was a bleached out SPS! LOL

Here is 7 month's growth.

Hey congrads! I've been thinking of trying it, but too chicken. Hope you post some pix. I'll be interested in hearing how the frags do.

Thanks.

Yeah, I'm usually one to say if there aren't pictures it didn't really happen lol.

I'll get some pics up

One thing I'll add, I had more pieces than I anticipated and they were bigger than I anticipated. I figured it would be better to have larger frags to grow and get bigger faster than tons of tiny ones that I'm not sure if I'd be able to get rid of.

I didn't have any rubble, so I used a few frag plugs, a few seashells, and a few pieces of live rock. I ran out of gumbands (rubber bands for you non-western-pa folks), so I used some fishing line on a few.

So I'm curious to see which combinations work the best.

Here is the mother colony before the haircut.

Please excuse the cyano :sad2:

Here is the after (the clowns aren't very happy as they were using it as host). The picture is with the LED moon lights on.

I used a razor and cut in a circle around it as that seemed the most common method.

I'll get some pics of the frags tomorrow. I'm happy with how it turned out. It freed up a ton of space in my 20g reef tank, and I put some of the frags in my 75 Fowlr tank, hoping the fish will leave them alone.

Thanks, it cut very easily. I just used a brand new blade on a box-cutter knife.

Everything still looking good today . . . Although some of the string/rubber bands look a little tight.

I've got my main toadstool in my tank but I also have at least 5 smaller babies on assorted nearby rocks. The only problem is that I can't remove the rocks from the tank. :-(

Can I cut the smaller toadstools while they're in my display so that I can attach them to a small piece of rubble to sell later?
