Anybody frag a coral and have the fragged pieces grow in different colors even though they are in the same tank?
I'm starting to notice this with a coral I fragged.

what type of coral? and what colors are you getting? I have seen this happen and its pretty natural. if the frags are in different areas in the tank, some closer to the light....

It's an Acro-millipora species, the main frag is a bronze / dark red highlights, the 3 frags from it are a light bronze, with light blue highlights.

The 1st pic shows the source coral to the right, and the 1st frag from it.

This pic shows 2 more frags from the original coral with lighter highlights.

The 2 smaller frags are starting to grow up, I'm curious to see the colors then.

I have an acro growing now the top half is light blue/purplish and the bottom half is put out a bright green flourscent shoot...go figure...

i did the same thing with a millipora i frag it into 3 pieces when i got it and put one on each side and one in the middle, the one in the middle is gold and the one on the right is green, the one on the left however is pink...

You got it made! Now have some poor chap over and sell him frags of each.

Not really.

I've got a Bali Mariculture piece I got last June that has done that.

Not unexpectedly, it changed from the coloration it came in with - but ended up a solid purple color w/ blue on the growth tips.
I fragged it into two when I put it in the tank, and then fragged one of those after about 6 months - putting a small frag on my overflow.

That coral has turned a much lighter greenish-turquoise color, without the purple of the the other one. The other piece in the tank is closer to the solid purple, but on the encrusting base getting a little of the greenish/blueish color.

Given they're all still golf ball sized and growing out - it wouldn't suprise me once it gets to 4" that it might combine all these colorations, or do something new again.

Will try to get pics ... but I have seen this on a few corals [my scripps millie seems to have changed a bit when I moved it across the tank] - likely will try to grow out two colonies of both of these corals, as they'll color a bit different.
