Fragging 10" + large toadstool leather????

I have a larger toadstool that I would like to frag. It is maybe 10" across. I know I can just cut a piece out and thats that. What I was wondering is, if anyone has cut around the whole outside of one? Say maybe and 1/2- 3/4" thick all the way around. Would this be too big of a frag for one time, or do you think it will be ok? I would like to hear from people that have fraged leathers and such like this in this way. Thanks for looking.

Hi,I did this to a sacro that was about 16" across.I literally cut about a 1 1/2" wide donut around the entire coral. The coral looked pretty sad for a few hours, but had polyps out later that day.It did take a few months for the sides to really heal & to start growing polyps from the cut areas.HTH

You can cut the entire cap off a sarco and cut it into any sized pieces you want. They will all live, if they get light. In a couple of weeks they can attach to live rock rubble. The stem will grow new polyps but it can take a month or more. I have not had much luck fragging the stems. Only the upper 1/3rd of the stem.
www.garf.org has a video on it I think, if not it has written instructions. Dig aroung the site and you will find it. I the toadstool will bleed as you cut it under water, but that is normal from my experience. Good luck!

It's the best way that I've found of fragging a sacro,as it leaves the basic shape intact-just a bit smaller.I would not frag it in the tank though,as sacros can release a bunch of terpens into the tank water.Remove it from the tank, frag it & rinse it off in a bucket of used tank water, before returning it to the main tank.HTH
