Fragging Birdnest

I have a birdnest SPS coral and a piece broke off, fell inside the rocks and a new coral grew quickly out of the little frag. Then I try to frag the main colony and I have a lot of losses when I frag them, glue them to plugs and have them on my frag rack. Any idea what I do wrong? Are they very delicate glueing? How are you fragging bird nest corals?

just cut and glue for me. you could try cutting it and letting it sit somewhere to heal for a few days then glue to plug.

are you using super glue?

Are there any great elevation or flow changes moving from the colony to the rack? I have found all of my accidentally fragged BN's to be fairly indestructible.

+1 to what jayball said, it's there low flow in your frag rack area? imo birdsnests are hard to kill but low flow will do it pretty quickly.

If you have some nice rock and space you can always try to mount the frag temporarily next to the mother. Once it has had some time to heal and adjust as a smaller entity you can move it to a different area that probably has different lighting/flow
