Fragging Frogspawn and hammer corals?

spankey

I have a piece of hammer with about 3 heads on it. I also have a 3 headed frogspawn as well. I have fragged them in the past. As a matter of fact these are left over frags from selling off the main larger colonies?

Any rate. Here is my question. My tank is getting so full that they are starting to get close to my SPS  . I want to ditch them (Sell them) but my wife loves both of these corals.

Now here is the question. I would normaly let them grow so the stalk is totally dead calcium and notch the center between the stalks and snap it in half?

My issue is the area between the stalks is still white and not hard and dead if you get what I mean? Can this still be fragged? I have heard of people cutting corals down the middle to frag them and want to make sure I don't kill it?

I heard about a seminar where Anthony Calfo was cutting corals with a saw down the middle of say gonipora and plate corals.. All kinds of corals that most would not have dared touch that way?

So is there a way to frag the hammer and frogspawn?

Thanks so much for your help and possible links to info on doing this?
Spankey!

Well, if there is tissue - there could be future growth you're hassling. But ... in my experience, you can cut that and provided you avoid touching/holding the heads - I had no big problems.

I generally use a dremel w/ diamond wheel to cut coral skeleton, and prefer to use something like a razor blade to cut/score where the tissue is ... one smooth movement - then snap [as it's mostly dremelled on the other/dead side].

I'd do one, see how it goes - do the other one another time?

There's a number of good threads in the past on the subject.

Thanks, I was afraid to cut the flesh/white around the dead part of the coral? I really don't want to loose it nor kill it!

:)
