fragging halimeda?

mano

What's the best way to do this? I have a huge piece of halimeda in my nano and I want to prune it and stick a piece in my seahorse tank. Should I just cut it down by the base? I don't want to kill it or stress it though so I want to make sure I do it right.

Thanks for any advice!

I usually just cut 2" to 3" sections and push the plugs into my sandbed. They will soon send out holdfasts. I have also just broken off sections and wedged them into rock crevices. Halimeda is tough.
Things that may stress it are rapid drops in salinity, alkalinity, or pH. Lack of nutrients may also stress macroalgae.
