fragging questions

I decided to piddle with a little fragging today, on stuff that isn't rare or expensive. One problem I had was a kenya tree that was shading out some palythoas. I just cut it off the rock with a razot blade, close to the rock. It put out a LOT of fluid, as if I had deflated it. Will this stuff cause a problem in the tank with other corals? I don't know if it's some chemical that could harm the others. Also, the stuff STINKS!! I can't get the smell off my hands!!

The second thing I decided to do was cut a green/brown striped palythoa off and put it on a frag plug to see if it will grow into a tradeable frag. When I cut it, it did similar, and withered down to about nothing very quickly. I assume that both of these were just releasing fluid as some sort of defense, and should recover as they slowly absorb more water and heal, correct?

I just ordered a new frag rack off ebay. I got one before from CaptainSaltys, and the magnets are awesome. It holds just fine on 1/2" glass. If you let the magnets stick directly to each other, they're difficult to get apart. I bought another frag rack from a LFS recently, and it won't hold up well at all on thick glass. I'll have to return it...and reccomend they buy from Captain Saltys instead of Eshopps...cause the magnets are much better. Also, the holes are smaller in the eshopps rack and some plugs won't go in them. Live and learn...I'd rather support the LFS's, but perhaps with my reccomendation it will help them in the future. :D

Corals (like us) are mostly water. It is easier to cut them if you irritate them a bit first so that they expel most of their water.

I have a sensitive stomach and I can't cut hairy mushrooms without dry heaving if I breath. Wear latex gloves. There's no reason to carry that stink around with you.

I did, and I guess it made some difference, but still spewed a lot.

I should have thought about the gloves...and will next time. What's so bad about the hairy mushrooms, the smell or them expelling white ooze?

I've got to rescend my reccomendation for Captain Saltys. I ordered a frag rack from them on ebay, on a BIN auction. I paid via paypal and within 5 minutes, I got an email that my payment had been refunded. They told me that they were unable to process my order at the time...no explanation or anything. I asked if they could at a later date, if they were out of stock or what. No answer...only that they had some problems with ebay and couldn't complete the transaction.

I asked if they could still do the sale if I went to their website and they commented that they couldn't discuss sales outside of ebay, through the ebay system. I then told them that I had emailed the same questions to the email on their website and got no reply.

So it appears that they aren't all that good on their customer service. I'd have been satisfied if they had at least said they were out of stock or that they could do the sale in a few days or something...but they gave me no information as to when they could sell me the frag rack. Anybody have reccomendations for a good frag rack that will hold to 1/2" glass?
