Fragging Rics

My question is if you just cut one in half through the mouth and leave it where it is with both halves form their own? or will they just reattach to each other and make 1 ricordea again?
Just looking for anyone who has done this in the past. I have fragged mine and moved them to new rocks/plugs.
Just curious if I cut it where it is if I can get each half to grow into a new one so I can get tightly packed ricordea next to each other.

I cut them like that all the time, but it is tricky at times until you get the hang of it.

I would take a flat razor and slice the ric in half, then slice directly to left and a directly to the right of the first.

From there I would use the back side of the razor or a flat head screwdriver and gouge any remaining gut's/flesh remaining in the cut.

This should leave you with a cut the thickness of a house key or slightly wider.

make sure to rinse good, you should then see rock between the 2 pieces.

pick up the frag daily for 2 day's and give it a shake, just to make sure the wound doesn't get infected.

if you just slice it, it will grow back together from my experience.

Thats kind of what I though would happen. I have been fragging them and moving them to discs. Then once they heal placing them close together again. Just figured I would save myself a week or two of trial and error and see if someone else had tested this already.
Thanks!

with a large healthy ric it is,

Fairly safe if you slice horizontal then in 1 week you can slice vertical so you have 4

A little risky, but possible if you slice 2 x horizontal for 3 evenly divided pieces then 1 x vertical for a total of 6

Wait 3 - 7 days between each cut.

With 6 cut's you should not use a ric that you can't afford to lose, if it's your first few times propagating into 6 pieces.

Put on in the blender than pour it in the flow of a power head. Now you have hundreds of Rics, lol. JK, this only works sometimes.
