Fragging Trachyphilia?

Has anyone been successful fragging a Trachyphilia brain coral? I am interested in trying this. I have heard that it is not possible but in Calfos book he says it is easy to frag them and they heal very well. Anyone try it and what happened? Thanks

I've seen a pics on here from people who have, I think I saw a grafted one somewhere as well. You basically just end up with two halves of a very slow growing coral that just sit there and look less good than they used to.

I haven't fragged trachs (I don't keep them), but I do frag plates. My advice, depending on your goals, would not be to split it in half. I'd try to take a smaller frag from the side so the mother colony heals up faster and looks normal faster. The small piece should eventually form into its own head.

How small is small? That's up to you. I've clipped tiny tiny tiny pieces of plates and they do fine, but they take forever to start coming to size. Just a touch bigger and they do much better. Maybe the size of a nickel and up they do better. Unfortunately I can't give you any similar sizing advice for trachs.

Update this thread if you pull the trigger. I'm an avid fan of fragging LPS that "shouldn't" be fragged. :)

I fragged one about 6 months ago. It looks very healthy I can post a pic tomorrow. The side I cut still is not covered with the meat it is bare. It is growing over the side slowly but very very slowly.
