Fragstravaganza

Hello All,
Just went to the Reef-Life Fragstravaganza last night an Patrick really hooked me up. If you have any frags laying around, I would recommend trying him out. There is lots of neat stuff in his store. I also purchased some nice corals for $5/inch. Some of the rare ones go for $15/inch but he is quite generous in measuring. He holds this only on Wednesday nights but I found it to be very worth it.

He was fragging 8 different stony corals. Nice ones. Cat's Paw, some Monti's, acros...etc.

I just thought I would pass this along.

It is actually in the plaza that is on the SW corner of Griffin Rd. and Pine Island in Davie.
If you are coming up from Miami take I-595 in Ft.Lauderdale to Pine Island Rd and head south to Griffin...

You can e-mail Patrick. reeflif@bellsouth.net for more info and to get on his e-mail list. I don't have his phone # handy...

Around what time was he cutting the stuff up? I'm gonna try to make it next week but I don't want to get there too early.

5-8pm (close)
It's more of a one-on-one rather than a group thing. He decided to do this on a Wednesday night because it is a slow night for the shop.

Look what I got for $ 15.00 !!!!
Pat was MORE than generous.....
Of course I screwed up and glued it to a new piece of rock that is essentially the same colour as the acro. Oh well, it will get coralline in no time.
Tonight the blue tips look even better!

Pat mentioned at the Frag Swap he was going to be doing that. It sounds great! He's taking your frags, treating them, and putting them in for trading. I need to get out there one Weds and check it out. I also need to try out the new camera there, as he has a very photogenic store!

something kinda bothers me about me giving two frags for one, that doesn't seem like a fair trade. so should i bring two frags plain jane zoas for one frag of a nice zoa? would they say yes to that? can i just bring any zoas and get whatever zoas i want? i guess i'll have to see what the size of there frags are and the colors.

it would be nice if someone would take pics there like they do at eco-reef to kinda spread the love.

Hey Jess, I wouldn't count on getting anything really special from the frag tank.
It seems like a good vehicle for people just starting out or on a tight budget to get a little something different in their tank for "free".
The real reason to go for someone like you would be to get a sweet frag of whatever colonies Pat is chopping up that night, like Speckled Grouper did.
That's the main reason why I'm going next week, but of course I'll bring a few frags of whatever zoas I have an excess of, and hope I spot something nice I don't have... you never know when you'll get lucky. ;)

To anyone that's already been, how bring are the frags that are in the frag tank on average?
Inches on the stonies, and # of polyps on the softies?

Jess and John, this is how I look at it:

1. Jess, you say "something kinda bothers me about me giving two frags for one, that doesn't seem like a fair trade", think about it, that is similar to what you do at the meeting auction right now. Your frag sells for, let's say $ 12.00 and you get $ 6.00 back, half of your value. To me, same thing, whether it's $$$ or product.

2. John, you say "I wouldn't count on getting anything really special from the frag tank". That, I think, is true for now, because the tank is only a week old.

I think the real potential lies in the future.

You cannot expect anything great just yet, and yes, I think, right now it serves the people that are just starting out. Like us, a few years back, remember??? I do, and how stupid I was and paid $ 50 bucks for my first frag of brown zoas.....(still have them btw)

The potential of that frag tank is endless, BUT it is dependant on the participants like you Jess, John, Rogger, Darcy, Eric, Matt, me, and everybody else. And I think, the idea is GREAT! Just think about it....a permanent frag exchange in a central location, accessible to everybody, 6 days a week...I never even heard of something like this existing anywhere else..........

And it doesn't matter where and at what store it's located, it's OUR tank, Reef Life is not making a penny on that tank, as a matter of fact, they are paying the electricity to run it! And they stocked it to get it going, so it's understandable that there won't be any rare and desirable frags for us in there until WE change that! The 2 for 1 rule is just to get the tank full of frags and a nice selection going quickly.

I have some stuff I am planning to contribute, and if everybody else does the same, we will have a "rocking" frag tank in no time!

Just think about it......

I am excited too, because if everybody participates, the possibilities are endless, hey, we might need to beg Pat for a second tank in the near future, like one for softies and one for stonies...not sure if he would go for that though....

Oh, and I promise, I won't bring the ancient brown zoas for trade....
