Fragswap in Rochester, NY?

After attending my first fragswap at ARC in Buffalo this past weekend I had a great idea...Why not get a fragswap here in the Rochester area? I am not sure if there is one in Rochester already but I do know that there is a swap in both Buffalo and Syracuse and I figured why not have one in the middle of the 2 cities? I think it would be a great idea if there was enough interest and proper timing. Currently I have no idea where it could be hosted but I would contact some of the local shops in the Rochester area and see if they would be interested in hosting a swap if there was enough interest. I'm sure most of us who attended the swap at ARC also spent a few bucks in the shop as well!!?

So, would there be enough interest in a swap in the Rochester area and what are your ideas on setting one up? I'm not sure who to talk to about setting one up though. Maybe the fragswapper.com people and local shop owners? I'm certainly willing to get the wheel rolling on a swap in Rochester. And if the moderators of the swaps can point me in the right direction on doing so that would be fantastic as well. Thanks a lot!!

I will most likely NOT be having the annual frag swap/open house this year due to the fact that I'm jammed up with another pretty big project during the time I would host this. If I do, it will be Saturday March 19.

I guess it's pretty strange to post a reply that one is probably not having a frag swap... :hmm3:

I was thinking about one in Spring, but not sure if ARC is doing another then. I wanted to do something that centers around "topics". (lighting, chemistry).
Not really sure.....
Just thinking.

Ooo! Starting to get excited - some sort of lecture from one of our resident experts would be really worthwhile!

I believe the ARC Spring swap is going to take place on April 2 or 9. Monthly meetings would be fun if there was enough interest.

Ive said this for some time now, and I've tried to talk to Tom over at reef shop and he keeps saying "thats why I have those wine nights" but I feel that if enough people show him interest he might change his mind...

what about having another one at strong museum, they had a lot of space at the last swap they had there, and it was cool seeing the behind the scenes of their BIG tank

I missed the one at Strong and would love to see the tanks there, but wherever it's held, I sure would be happy to attend.

On a related note, I've noticed some clubs have little social events like a pizza night just to get together and have some reef talk. The winter months are so long, it would be nice to meet with local people.

I think monthly swaps might be way too often IMO...I don't want to speak for JC, but I believe he meant meetings as in general and specific reef chat/seminar-ish type stuff.

We will soon be hosting an event. Have actually set up special space for local hobbyists to utilize on ongoing basis. Almost like public aquarium space. The space will be shared and coordinated with the freshwater folks. This is all built for local hobbyists to use so hope folks take advantage.

I would like to see something that the center attraction is learning rather than swapping. Maybe someone discussing new lighting or something like that.
