We just moved a reef tank 7 1/2 hrs. There is alot of die off of live rock due to cold weather. The tank came stocked with lots of corals and fish. We have 180 lbs of live rock and 40 lbs of live sand. The ammonia is starting to increase along with the phosphate. What is the best thing to do? PS........ there is black looking algae/sponge growing on some of the rock!!!! What is this and is it bad? Thanks so much for any advice. :eek2:

well i would start with a water change in the display, for all the corals if you have a tub mix some salt and put them in the seperate container until the main steadys out. as for the black thing most likly a dead sponge id scrape it off but a pic would help

Wow! First thing, stay calm.

Can you put the new corals and fish into one of your current tanks? Maybe the 55 or the 150 or both. You should have enough room, but you might need to move some fish around to accomodate the new comers.

If there is any way you can do that, that would be great. Then just let the new 125 go through its move induced mini cycle and return them when it is over.

If you can't do that, then a lot of water changing, Phosgard, Purigen, and no feeding for a few days should see you thru.
