free aptasia infected liverock

just a question but how hard is it to kill aiptasia and bristle worms because i could use some rock, but i know these aren't good to introduce into the tank.
it might be worth it for me???

well....

well....

Bristle worms are no problem at all. They eat detritus for the most part. If you do not have much detritus, they will just not have food and the population will fade away.

For Aptasia, depending on how covered the rock is, I would try to put the rock in a separate vat, or tank. Kill it, and after you are sure you do not have any left, use the rock.

I have had great success with kalwasser solution injected into them.

You DO NOT want to purposely introduce aiptasia into your system. I've been fighting them for 3 years. It's a loosing battle- even with Joe’s Juice. boiling water, shrimp . . . . Unless you are doing something specific like breeding nudies or trying to create an aiptasia filter do yourself a favor and stay away. It will be more work than it's worth

thanks...i didn't think it was worth it...but free rock...LOL...im a newbie and a college student on a budget...thanks though! guess its not for me!

Heck, if it was good rock, just sun it. No aiptasia can withstand a bad sunburn when laying out in open air...or give it to someone who is breeding aip-eating nudis, like I did with my 5lbs that was in my mantis tank before I moved him.

pick it up, let it dry and sun out. then introduce it and let it become live again!

heck if someone brings it to me I could probably do it.

so If I wanted the rock...just buy it...put it outside for a couple days so everything dies...and then put it in my tank? my tanks been up for about 5 or 6 months now...will adding this to my tank cause it to cycle???

You can nuke it in the microwave, boil it in a pot of water, put it in the over, put it outside for a few days in the hot sun, etc.

Then you need to clean it best you can. Then you need to cycle it (not it your display tank). You will probably need to clean it a few times while doing the cycle because the rock should be dead.

Was just thinking, if you have a yellow tang you could try putting one rock in the tank and see how fast the yellow will eat it. Some people have good luck with the "natural" method.

If the tang "cleans" the rock for you, then you could add another, etc...

I could probably put 100lbs of this rock in my tank and it would be clean in 2 days. It wouldn't even matter if it tried to grow back because the tangs would make short order of it.

be careful of the microwave.....lets just say I know from experience......trapped bubbles of water/air can expand and blow a rock up.....yeah....not going to do that again.

i read some where where some one smotherd pieces of live rock in thier sand bed and it killed the aptasia that way its still somewhat live. but you would have to have a lot of sand
