FREE FRAGS!!!! (with a few conditions)

Hey everyone,

So my tank has suffered major losses in the past few months because of alkalinity swings caused by a Bubble Magus dosing pump failure. Although a lot of my SPS died, I do have some colonies left that were super resilient during the alk swings. My tank has finally become stable again and the colonies seem to be doing just fine.

I'm looking to give some frags of my remaining colonies to an experienced reefer to make sure the colony lives on! There are a few conditions for taking the frags:
  1. You must be a current member of LIRA
  2. You need to have experience with SPS and putting it in a mature tank.
  3. If I happen to loose my mother colony you need to be willing to cut me a small frag from the piece I gave you (assuming it grew enough that you are able to cut it)
  4. Pick it up in Merrick - not at the next meeting.

The frags I would be including are: Rainbows in Spain, Strawberry Fields, a forest green acro with baby blue tips, Mean Green, Birds of Paradise, Green Hystrix birsdnest, Mr. Packman, ORA Birdsnest, another cool looking green acro. I might also be able to swing a piece of my Red Planet. I have no proof of lineage for these corals, but then again I personally don't care about "designer corals", I just care if they look nice :-)

I haven't cut any of the pieces yet so if you were to take them you would need to wait a week or so to pick them up. If you're interested just send a PM and let me know. I'm thinking I could cut the colonies and make 2 sets to give away.

Kevin,

I can help by holding your corals while your tank stabilizes.
I have conditions though.

1. I want a frag before I hand them back.
2. I want to make sure your tank is ready to take them back when you're ready.
3. You must take frags from me so I'll have a backup of my colonies.

I have a 120 gallons reef with two oceanrevive T247 fixtures.
Dose 2 part and do 5% water change weekly.
The tank is new, but the contents were moved in a "hot swap" from a 4 yr old stable reef.
I've also been a part of this group from day 1 and have 25 yrs experience.
Let me know what if you'd like my help.

I can vouch for Reef junkie, He has been doing this for a long time.

I was member 34 when this club started back in the day.

He said his tank was stable and he wanted to distribute frags not get someone to hold his colonies...

Kevin, I'm in Bellmore, but dealing with a similar fallout and still battling Nitrates or I would offer to assist. Good luck.

Hey Bill,

Fortunately my tank has been stable and I haven't lost anything for 2 months now. Some of the colonies still have burnt tips from the initial alk swings, but all seems to be well. If you're interested I'll be more than happy to count you in. I really want to do this because I lost a few BEAUTIFUL colonies that I wish I had fragged and given to someone so at least a part of it survived. It's such a shame that something so pretty is completely gone. That's what I get for trusting an automatic dosing pump and not hand checking for about 2 weeks - I still cringe at the thought that I did that…

I don't anticipate losing any more colonies (fingers crossed), but if I did I MIGHT look to whoever takes them for a frag in the future (if the frags grew out enough).

I'll send you a PM Bill. mbg75, I'll also send you a PM.

Thanks for vouching OneGreenRay, and thanks for the sympathy Inevo….I feel your pain lol
