Free Live Rock

Hey guys, Not a PAMS member and not selling anything, just need a little help.

I've got about 85lbs of Live Rock that I need to get rid of right now. I was going to give it to a friend of mine, but he didn't show up to pick it up today and isn't answering his phone. I'm moving to NC for good Saturday AM and am taking down my 55g salt aquarium.

It needs to be picked up either tonight (Thurs) or sometime Friday. I've got about 50-60lbs of LR in the tank itself, and an addition 20-30lbs sitting dead in stagnant salt water. It all needs to go. I've got buckets, all you have to do is come pick it up.

The rock has been in the tank for about 18 months. It's a FOWLR tank with no corals. I also have a fish if you want it, but it's unique and not that interesting. It's an Oyster Toadfish if you think you might want it. Very aggressive.

If you are interested, but absolutely cannot make it till the weekend, I can load the rock into buckets and leave them with some people at the house, and you can just take it then. Either way the tank will come down tomorrow.

The rock is located in Latrobe, PA out near the airport. Also, the first person to come and get it can take a the couple pounds of reef crystals I have left as well as all the fish food I'll never use.

I am interested. Is there coraline on it? I only need about half of it if anyone wants to split it.

Yeah, most of it has coraline on it. I had a few pieces being used as filter media in a canister filter until 3 weeks ago, so they're a little farther behind in the development process.

If you take all of it, you could give the rest away, or sell it if you want. I would've done this right if my friend hadn't blown me off, but for now I just want to see it go to a good home.

The flash washed out and blew up the contrast, so it looks really terrible. There is some green algae on alot of the rock, but those pics really make it look far worse than it is. To give some indication, the red on the glass isn't even visable to the naked eye. Thats crazy. :eek2:
I took good care of the tank and its occupants, but I am relativly new to this so the rock is just good, not pristine.
 
Yeah, I'd love for you to take it. Especially if Ray doesn't want it. Nice thing about the stuff in the cooler is you don't have to hurry to pick it up, it's been in that cooler for 3 months or so. I can just leave it here with the family with your name on it, and you just let me know when you're coming.
Like I said, unless Ray really wanted it, but I doubt he does, since it doesn't have anything on it at all.

The cooler is yours too. Just come and get it.

Ryan, it's first come first serve. I'd like to be able to hold it for people and such, but I'm leaving for NC saturday AM and not coming back, so if you're willing to be here today it's obviously yours. Latrobe is about 45 mins east of Pittsburgh, you sure you want to go that far?

I'll call you in a few mins if you don't reply.
 
Nobody? If you can't make it till the weekend, I can leave it with my family with your name on it and you can get it Saturday or Sunday. I won't be here, but worse case you just take it off the porch.

I'd rather have somebody come today, but if someone can commit to getting it this weekend, that'd be fine too.
 
Man that sucks i was coming to get it you could have left it in the pourch i really needed it. That not very fair
 
First come first server offers rarely ever end up with all parties happy.

Schs, the guy did say "first come first serve" and has already had 1 person back out. You may also want to note that RAY inquired about the rock less than an hour before you asked for it. So it appears that you were willing to jump in front of him to get what you wanted as well.

Coralfarmer, the kind thing to do would have been to offer some of the rock to RAY and if he does not want it, then to coralfarmer. Of course you are under no obligation to do anything but enjoy your free rock.

dodint didn't help things by offering "first come" midway through the thread either.

I don't really care who ended up with the stuff, but I also don't want to see a fight here either. It appeas that all three parties didn't handle the situation perfectly... like I said "first come" deals never end up going smooth...

Im not sure that any club members have any free rock, but I would imagine that several people could spare some for a decent price. You may also want to ask Jason at Under The Sea, he mentioned getting a big shippment of rock in at a good price.

My favorite is Reeferrocks.com It is bleached base rock, but it is some of the nicest rock I have seen and will be live in no time. Dirt cheap!
 
I was not trying to be a jerk. Nathan told me he had one day to get rid of the rock, he was moving ASAP. He was going to throw the rock away. I had to drive two hours one way to pick the rock up and now it all needs cured because it has hair algea all over it. I was not trying to steal someone elses rock, everyone had the same chance as me.... sorry if i offended anyone here, I just needed some rock and no one else seemed to be coming WHEN the rock NEEDED to be gone by. Once again I'm sorry if I hurt anyones feelings....
 
I, too, am sorry for any feelings that may have been hurt during this. I thought that it was obvious that time was the most important element in me getting this rock out of my possession. I found a single person willing to come get it in that timeframe and am happy to have unloaded it. Burdoning my family by leaving buckets of rock around was to be a secondary option, a last resort.

Again, I'm sorry that people are upset. However, I do have a hard time feeling upset for people mad about not getting something for nothing. Ryan was cool enough to take initiative and actually come and get it. Had I gotten a single e-mail or message stating an exact time for pick-up from someone else, I would've told Ryan he couldn't have it.

Like you said, first come first serve ends bad sometime, but nobody lost anything so I'm not going to feel bad about it.
