Hi, all. This hobby is full of surprises!
I have an established reef tank. I was doing my routine maintenance, changing the filter sock in my sump, when lo and behold, there's this little mantis! Where'd it come from?
Anyways, my find is your gain. I already have a peacock and a G. smithii, so I have no real home for this dude, either than just releasing him back into the reef. I will do that if no one wants him. I'm not willing to ship.
It's about an inch long, reddish, with lots of spots. I'm thinking G. viridis. Definitely a gonodactylid from the telson. It's a little traumatized after spending up to a week in the filter sock (not sure when he went over the overflow), so a positive ID will have to wait. In any case, if it's not G. viridis, it's darned close. It appears healthy and is settling down in a critter keeper in my sump.
PM me if interested.
Thanks,
Dan
