Hey guys. I just pulled off several heads of Xenia that originally came from Mariner at the Nashville Frag swap. Yours for the taking. Also, I've got a nice plate coral that I don't want, so that's yours too. I was going to drive down to Newby's and give it to him, and I thought some of you might want it?

The Xenia is in a container in the tank at the moment. It's still pulsing, so I would say it's going to be ok, but I didn't try to attach it to anything. Pulled it off Friday evening. I live in Woodville. Anyone?

I wished i had saw your post earlier!

I wished i had saw your post earlier!

Im starting a 75g on a tight buget!It looks bare.I need anything I can get!Especialy live rock!!!and I live close to Woodville!:(

Aww, that stinks! I seem to always come up short too!

I usually have way more Xenia than I want, so you are welcome to that after I give this one frag I promised away. It shouldn't be too long before it splits again.

Even though this hobby is not for the tight budgetted, I will give you some Cheato (for your fuge) and a small frag of Kenya Tree if you pay for shipping on both?? Or you can pick them up. I am in northwest Florida in Crestview.

You guys are great!
ill send u my number
Mr james i dont have a fuge.It would have to be hidden and my stand only has two cabnets (10 by 16)on either side and has shelves the middle. How much do ya think shipping will be?I will be in Destin the first week in Aug.
Do you guys think 10 By 16 is big enough for a fuge? That would be right aginst the walls.
THANKS!THANKS!

If you are willing to come to Madison, I can share some corals with you. I have some beautiful pink pompom xenia, some zoanthids, GSP, finger leather, etc.

Shipping would need to be no more then 2 day air or whatever. Since we live so close, I can't imagine it would take that long to shiop, but I don't know. Shipping is usually the killer. I live about 30 minutes from Destin. If you want to look me up on your way home, (you have to pass through Crestvieww to get to the highway because of the military base here), let me know and you can stop and get a frag of it and possibly some others if I have extra. I've got a 180g with 5 chromis and only a handful of frags, so I am bare too. When it gets closer, keep my name and remind me. We can hook up somewhere along the way. James

You are going to need some more rock if you are not going to run a fuge, also by looking at your tank where is the circulation? You will need some powerheads if you dont have some. Maybe I am overlooking them. But I too have a frag of or two I could give you but I dont think it will make it in those conditions. Also without water movement you will only have another bloom. Not getting down on you just would hate to give away stuff knowing it wont have a fighting chance. Also what kind of lighting do you have?

Hmm, I don't see any pump or powerhead, either. Nitroq2 brought up very important points. You also need a protein skimmer if you don't have one yet.

What corals do you have in your tank? Is that an anemone I see on top of the rock? If so, you may need more light.

Live rocks are probably cheaper at Coral Reef Aquatics. You can also use base rocks (and lace rocks) in addition to live rocks to keep the cost down.

If you are not going to use a fuge, you can still tuck some cheatomorpha behind rocks to help keep the water clean.

How's the cloudy water situation? It seems to me that you have a phytoplankton bloom since your tank picture seem to have greenish haze. Your ammonia, nitrate counts may be low because phyto is using them up. Of course it could be just a bacteria bloom like Mariner pointed out in another thread.

I've got a 550 powerhead and fixing to add another. My very next purchase will be a skimmer(on a budget)hopefully next week!
30lbs base rock
10lbs of live fegi
anemone
1 frag green star polup
1 '' yellow polup
all doing well!

If anything goes wrong I have a 20g with a few damsels thats been up for a year and doing great.

Good deal that will definately help out. I have some xenia I can pass along and probably a frag of Green Star Polyps. I am just south of Jasper. What kind of lighting you got on there?

An UV sterilizer or a diatom filter is the fastest way to get rid of the pea soup. The third one is copper, but you don't want to go that route.

You can also reduce the nitrate and phosphate to starve the phyto, too. The best thing for a nutrient export is chaetomorpha and a lot of it. Let macroalgae outcompete the phytoplankton. A good skimmer, activated carbon, and some phosphate remover helps a lot, too. I will give you some live rotifers when you come over. Rotifers feed on a variety of phytoplankton.

Are you feeding your livestock in 75G? Adding too much food is usually the main cause of too much nutrients in the water.

Tomoko

I almost forgot another effective way to get rid of phytoplankton. If you can move all your corals and anemone to your 20 gallon tank (you can leave other livestock in your 75G tank), I suggest that you turn off the light and cover up your 75 gallon with a quilt or a heavy blanket for 5 to 6 days. You need to shut out light completely to kill the phyto growing in your tank. Even a small amount of light will keep phytoplankton going, so don't lift the blanket to feed your livestock during the light-out period. Keep your filter with activated carbon and phosphate remover going. After 5 to 6 days of no light, your water should be clear.

Do any of you locals have any low light zoo's? i am also on a budget and just had to pick a very expensive hobby, i must say though coral reef aquatics has been great to deal with. I'm hoping to fill up the bareness of the rocks in my tank with some kind of life.

I live in Madison. I have been looking around for some reefers here but having a hard time trying to find some. I only have two corals right now, a brown button and green starburst. I would love to meet you and look at your tank. And if you want to "borrow" me a frag or two that would be great too lol :)
