Free: Two or Three large eels

I have 3 large eels (evicted from a client's aquarium), and I need a home for 2 of them, maybe all 3 of them.

They are:

A ~2.5ft Tesselated eel - this guy is very aggressive, he has eaten many tank mates. (how's that for a sugar coating?)

A ~1.5ft ??? eel - Hmm, I don't know the species, brown with light speckling (I'll have to look him up). Afaik, he hasn't taken any tank mates.

A ~1.5ft Snowflake eel. I'm going to offer this to another client, if she isn't interested, he'll need a home as well. Again, Afaik he hasn't eaten any tank mates.

I don't want any money for these guys, just a good home. (good luck to me)

(note to self: Boyd put in a request @ 2:50 for an eel)

At this point, ladyfsu has 1st dibs, followed by Boydx6 and then College429. (just going by time of posts)

I am waiting for word from my client regarding the SF.

The 'brown' eel looks similar to a Jewel or Yellowmouth, but as far as I can tell, is neither, it is covered in yellowish spots with a brown ring, towards the head, the spacing is tight and he appears to be brown with yellow spots, towards the tail, the spots are separated revealing a grayish background. I'll try to get some pictures soon.

Note to Boydx6: there's no way for me to say he wont eat your Clown trigger, I tend to believe either eel might be ok, well fed Snowflakes are usually not a problem in my experience, the brown eel I cannot judge as it is the only one I have had to deal with. Snowflakes are hardy animals (usually they die from dehydration), I would presume the brown eel is as well.

Oh, and just to be clear, these are large eels. You will need a large secure tank for them. And you will have to be cautious with them, if they get a hold of you, you may need stitches. If the Tesselate gets you, you may need a toe graft :eek1: (so make sure you have as many toes available as possible).

With that said, 1st dibs still available for the Tesselated!

I think a 90 is going to be a bit small for the smallest of the eels, I don't want to tell you no, but I would prefer they go into a larger system. I have taken care of these guys for years, and I just want them to go to the best possible home I can.

I had the time zone set wrong in my settings (eastern Europe lol), boydx6's PM came in at 9:50AM, sorry for the confusion.

Hopefully I'll hear from my client tomorrow, and we can finally figure out who gets what.

i got a 180 with a large lion and a grouper if no takers yet i could be very interested depending on your location. please let me know
im available to pick up fairly close
on either of em '
thanks

I can't believe you are going to finally part with these beasts. I have seen these eels first hand and can vouch that the Tess. Eel is one bad mofo as they are known to be. It's been a while since I have seen these guys but they were all big the last time I checked them out so I can't imagine how much they have grown since then.

how big do you think i need to go - i was really looking forward to getting a eel in general and even if i dont get one of these i would like to get one. so i was wondering how big of a tank do you think i need in order for them to be happy? i was going to go with a sting ray, but i think in even a 300 gallon tank they dont look very happy. eels dont seem to like to move far from there hole, so thats kind of why i picked them instead. Let me know what you think :-D

I am going to have to pass on them. My wife said there was no way an eel was going in the tank with her triggers.

As I mentioned as a possibility, my client wants the SF. (and I was wrong about his length, he's a little over 2' long as best I can tell),

The 'brown' eel is probably a tad longer than I thought as well (probably shy of 2', if you come hold him still, I'll measure him :) ). And I should have a picture of him tonight.

A 90 is fine for smaller eels, and I'm not saying you couldn't keep a 1.5/2' eel in there, but he'll be a little cramped, and he's going to get bigger. Start with a smaller SF or Zebra, and you'll be able to keep him comfortable for a much longer period. (Please stay away from Tess/Greens, these are far to aggressive for most people, the store probably wont take them back and I bet many end up in the bay/gulf)

Yeah, it's kind of bitter sweet, they're impressive, but they eat like horses, and they're currently confined to two 2'x2' cubicals.

Here's a pic of the unidentified eel: (if someone can ID I would appreciate it, I want to make sure I'm not giving away a million dollar eel)

I tend to agree, when I found other pics of the Jeweled, they looked very different in shape and the pattern was more sparse and less defined. Perhaps they were juvenile.

OT, how are those angels doing?

They are still going. The smaller one is fine and has been eating like a champ. The bigger one still has not eaten prepared foods but I am guessing it is finding something in the tank to eat because i see it poop everyday. I still cannot find a place that sells mussels.

mrferrit has a good place for your eels if you have not found your home for them yet. What do you feed your eels?
